Shade's First Rule: A Fantasy LitRPG Adventure

Sixteen-year-old Ruwen Starfield attends his coming-of-age Ascendancy hoping to become a mage and eventually clear his missing parents' names, but a high priest who blames him for their alleged crime forces him into the Worker class instead. During the ritual's death interval, an unseen power grants Ruwen a hidden Root class alongside his official Worker status, together with a quest to leave his home region within thirty days in search of the truth about his parents. Aided by a sympathetic temple novice and a Worker crew chief, Ruwen secretly assigns his Root class to Mage abilities as well, but an accident while practicing a spell draws the attention of a hostile power called Naktos, whose agents begin hunting him for reasons tied to his concealed abilities.
