System Interference recap

In short (whole book)

Derek and Silvi emerge from linked evolutions with stronger void powers, a shared oath, and advancement that the ordinary system increasingly refuses to grant. While Cydaria faces an invasion, Derek survives a lethal solo trial and takes command of the raid after Silvi rescues Edward and Edgar leaves for the war. Alana, Natalie, and Marcus repel the assault on Savannah. Derek recruits Bones and Ogre before leading the remaining raiders against Starfury Leonarus. Silvi kills the boss from within, but seven raiders die during the dungeon. Dave then explains that Origin System attention caused the interference and that Derek now needs higher-quality essence to progress. He grants new abilities in exchange for a future favor. The raid returns to a new outpost, while Derek and Silvi depart for Savannah and the war remains unresolved.

Previously, in earlier books (earlier books)

Previously: Derek Hunt is a powerful void-aligned adventurer bonded to Silvi, a sapient void companion whose appetite and cooking abilities are central to their partnership. Avery is an elite Crown fighter, and Edgar is a Cydarian prince accustomed to leading other high-level combatants. Alana is a legendary half-elf and Crown leader, while Natalie governs Savannah and supports its defense. Malorie manages Derek's household and Void Emporium interests when he is away. Derek also carries an unresolved responsibility to Jacks, his guard and trainer, who wants the full chain behind his family's kidnapping and murder uncovered. Derek and several of his strongest allies have entered a demanding raid dungeon, leaving their wider responsibilities in other hands. The expedition and the affairs of Cydaria remain connected to Derek's growing void powers, his unusual bond with Silvi, and the dangers created by his prolonged absence.

Story so far - through chapter 8 (this book)

Derek and Silvi complete simultaneous evolutions. Derek becomes a Human Void and Void Monarch, gains Void Creation and Void Travel, and is bound by an oath that prevents him from freely discussing the outside system responsible. Silvi becomes a Mythical Void Battle Chef, fully shares Derek's stats, and exchanges two class skills with him. The smith uses wyvern materials and Derek's void mana to finish Void's Harbinger, a legendary glaive that can repair itself by consuming material and merge into Derek's body. The dungeon turns deadly when Lane Marshall falls during a collapsing puzzle trial. A wood-affinity mage then enters an epic solo duel and dies. Derek volunteers for the same trial, only to discover that escape scrolls do not work inside it. Trapped with the Caustic Whale of Pestilence, he attacks from within its body, protects himself with Void Creation, and learns that the glaive can drain living tissue. He reaches the creature's brain and kills it, completing the duel while concluding that the raid needs firmer central control.

Story so far - through chapter 16 (this book)

Outside the dungeon, Cydaria has been fighting an invading alliance for about a year. Alana and Natalie have helped keep the defense intact, but Torith has fallen and the enemy prepares a new offensive. Inside the raid, broken contracts give Edgar and Walter reason to suspect an invasion even before they receive confirmation. Derek returns from the solo duel with a new achievement, although system interference disrupts his reward. At Clayton, Edward leads a small force against an enemy portal and is ambushed by Titus and an elven prince. Titus destroys Edward's right hand, and layered barriers prevent escape or communication. When news reaches the Void Emporium, Silvi uses Void Travel to cross the distance. She breaks into the sealed battlefield, kills the elven prince and other attackers, and saves Edward as Cydarian reinforcements arrive. Silvi then visits the capital for a promised reward before opening another void passage directly into the time-distorted raid dungeon. Her kills confirm to Derek and Edgar that the elven kingdom is participating in the invasion, while the enemy begins to understand that Derek's bonded companion caused the defeat at Clayton.

Story so far - through chapter 24 (this book)

Silvi reports the war to the raid, including Edward's survival and the elven prince's death. Edgar judges that the invaders may target Silvi to incapacitate Derek through their bond, so he leaves the dungeon on Blitz and transfers command to Derek. The enemy then attacks Savannah, isolating the city beneath a displacement barrier. Natalie delays the army while Marcus covertly attaches debuff talismans to the elven commander and destroys several portal teams. Alana exploits the sabotage, turns enemy soldiers against one another, and activates Metamorphosis Dawn Siren after she is trapped. The transformation lets her kill an allied crown prince and overpower the elven commander, forcing a retreat, though she collapses afterward. When Alana wakes, she confirms that she remained conscious and in control of the dangerous form. Back in the dungeon, Derek allows anyone with an escape scroll to leave and establishes his authority over those who remain. Silvi learns Dragonfire, and the smith supplies more of Derek's wyvern armor while leaving the gloves and boots unfinished. Avery's overdue trial team finally returns, allowing the reduced raid to continue under Derek's command.

Story so far - through chapter 31 (this book)

Derek selects a ten-person team for an epic survival trial against thousands of beasts. Silvi destroys several leaders with Void Shift and Dragonfire, while Derek, Avery, Lyra, and the others coordinate against the remaining armies. The group eventually clears the trial, and Derek reaches level 222. He and Silvi raise their shared stats, but an outside system interrupts the resulting threshold reward. When the trial distributes its prizes, every participant except Derek and Silvi receives the expected stat and skill benefits. Their shared oath prevents Derek from safely explaining the interference. With the sixth trial complete, the raid activates the final boss and receives two days to prepare. Derek releases Bones from Time Prison and consults Vanessa about him and Ogre, two former assassins raised together by the Assassin's Guild. Both face the Guild's bounty after capture. Derek offers them protected work in Savannah instead of returning them to their former organization. After negotiating safeguards against exploitation, Bones and Ogre swear loyalty. Dungeon restrictions prevent either prisoner from leaving Time Prison or joining the coming boss battle, so their future employment must wait until the expedition ends.

Story so far - through chapter 35 (this book)

Derek gathers the 21 surviving raiders and prepares a cautious boss plan, using Time Prison as a refuge for healers and less qualified fighters. The outside system intervenes during the summon because Starfury Leonarus exceeds the local system's normal limits, reducing the creature's stats before the battle begins. The immense star and space wielding beast removes buffs and redirects one of Derek's attacks through a rift, killing Ray Fergus near the Time Prison entrance. Rocky tears off one of its legs before being wounded, while Derek loses a foot and suffers severe damage to his other leg. The raid cannot overcome the boss's regeneration, and its spatial attack forces Derek to spend much of his mana on containment. Silvi secretly opens Void Travel inside the creature and burns it internally with Dragonfire, killing it. She survives with serious burns. The aftermath reveals a second disaster: the boss's star attack entered Time Prison and killed John Doyle, Sachiko Sato, John Newman, and Scarlet Mason. Sachiko shielded others before dying. Elena and Tristan stabilize the injured, and Elena helps Derek regrow his missing foot. The dungeon's total death toll has reached seven.

Story so far - through chapter 38 (this book)

The dungeon absorbs Starfury Leonarus's body and grants completion rewards. Derek and Silvi learn Spatial Redirection, while the other survivors receive doubled stat and skill rewards. Bones and Ogre remain restricted as dungeon entities until Derek completes his exit. Instead of returning directly to Cydaria, Derek and Silvi are taken to a gray room where an elf-like observer named Dave explains the interference. Derek's void evolution drew the Origin System's attention, and his altered body can no longer receive direct advancement from the Great System. Future growth will require sufficient higher-quality essence. Dave gives Derek Mental Resistance, Spatial Rend, and Spatial Collapse, supplies Silvi with recipes and seasonings, and permits a one-time overworld release for the prisoners. In return, he reserves a future favor intended to benefit both sides. Derek, Silvi, and the surviving raid then appear at a new outpost beside the inactive dungeon orb. They learn that Savannah repelled its assault and that Alana, Edgar, and Blitz have pushed the enemy near Cydaria's border, though the war remains undecided. Elena and Jasper stay to brief the Guild, while Derek asks Avery to carry him and Silvi toward Savannah.

How does it end? (ending)

Silvi kills Starfury Leonarus by opening Void Travel inside it and using Dragonfire, ending the raid dungeon. The victory costs seven lives. Ray Fergus dies when the boss redirects Derek's attack through a spatial rift, and four raiders die when the boss's star attack penetrates Time Prison. The survivors recover at a new Adventurer's Guild outpost, where Elena and Jasper are assigned to give the official account. Dave intercepts Derek and Silvi after the exit and identifies Origin System attention as the cause of their anomalous evolution and blocked rewards. Derek can no longer gain direct stats or skill upgrades from the Great System and must seek suitable essence instead. Dave provides new space abilities, gives Silvi recipes, authorizes a one-time release for Bones and Ogre, and reserves an unspecified future favor. Savannah has survived its assault, and Alana, Edgar, and Blitz have pushed the invaders close to Cydaria's border, but the war is still active. Derek and Silvi leave the outpost for Savannah, while Bones and Ogre remain oath-bound prospective allies whose practical release and employment are still pending.
