Task Force Hammer

By Craig Alanson

The seventeenth Expeditionary Force novel opens with the battlecruiser Valkyrie critically damaged and fleeing an enemy destroyer after a battle that let a hostile alien entity escape in energy form. While Valkyrie undergoes emergency repairs, the entity seizes a warship of its own and begins raiding Maxolhx facilities for advanced weapons, forcing Joe Bishop's team to track its movements and motives. Colonel Reed keeps Valkyrie's crew together through the overhaul, while a separate strike team infiltrates enemy archives to recover intelligence on the entity's origins and purpose. As the search continues, command redirects Joe toward wider reconnaissance and diplomacy, since the entity's capabilities and ultimate goal remain unknown.
