The Churn: An Expanse Novella characters

By James S. A. Corey

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Timmy (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A young man in Baltimore's criminal underworld, very large, very strong, and unnervingly calm. He works as muscle and a driver for a small crew, is well liked by people who do not need him to explain himself, and does not react to violence the way those around him expect. He has no family except the woman who took him in as a child, and no ambition beyond the day in front of him.

Erich (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The leader of the small crew Timmy works for, a clever young thief and hacker with a withered arm and an aggressive intelligence. He runs jobs on the edges of the city's larger organizations and is smart enough to know exactly how small he still is.

Lydia Maalouf (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An aging woman who has spent her life at the bottom of the city's economy and who took Timmy in when he was a child, protecting him and giving him the only stable attachment he has. She has a long history with the men who run Baltimore's underworld, and she knows more about their business than is safe for her.

Burton (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 2

The man who runs organized crime in this part of Baltimore, established, careful, and entirely unsentimental about the people who work for him. He has survived previous crackdowns by being willing to shed anything that might connect him to a charge.
