The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound 2: A LitRPG Adventure recap
Every recap below is hidden until you open it. Each one is safe to read once you have finished the chapter it names.
In short (whole book)
Randidly strengthens Donnyton while refusing a class, survives a Heretic judgment, and helps prepare the settlement to stand without him. Lyra destroys the Tribulation of Many Faces after it attacks Donnyton, but Nul dies and she secretly becomes the replacement village spirit. Answering Shal's summons on Telus, Randidly survives a lethal qualifier, develops personal spear and root skills, builds an engraving business, and reveals a dangerous internal ether source. He and Shal enter a time-dilated prison to gain years of training, then escape with several allies after Randidly deliberately triggers another judgment. Shal accepts a six-month life-debt for the escape deaths and rebukes Randidly for an unnecessary killing. While traveling toward the Northern Regional Tournament, Randidly kills a Thunderhammer artisan in self-defense, continues questioning his use of lethal force, and discovers that emerald crystal has overtaken his unstable soul-skill landscape. The book ends before the tournament, with a public engraving sale planned in two days.
Previously, in earlier books (earlier books)
Previously: The System transformed Earth into a world of levels, classes, monsters, and village powers. Randidly Ghosthound survived while remaining classless, developed unusual plant, magic, and spear abilities, and became one of Donnyton's principal protectors. The settlement grew around a mixed group of fighters, crafters, leaders, and the village spirit Nul. Donny, Daniel, Lyra, Decklan, Dozer, Annie, Sam, Regina, and other residents took on distinct parts of its defense and government, reducing but not ending its reliance on Randidly. Shal trained Randidly in the Spear Phantom tradition, leaving Randidly with both a demanding standard for strength and an obligation to aid his mentor. Two of Randidly's friends from before the System, including Ace, remained missing, and finding them was still an unresolved personal goal. Donnyton's survival was precarious as larger threats gathered around the new settlements. Randidly's exceptional growth had also failed to answer whether he could use his power without becoming a danger to the people he intended to protect.
Story so far - through chapter 9 (this book)
Randidly organizes the relocation of Frankfurd residents to Donnyton, but a confrontation with his former girlfriend Tessa ends with him nearly killing her and nearby guards through Agony. Horrified by his loss of control, he strengthens Frankfurd's defenses and turns toward creating a spear style of his own. He continues refusing the classes offered or encouraged by the System. Meanwhile, a shapeshifting tribulation approaches Lyra in Randidly's form and accompanies her into the neighboring settlement. Lyra discovers that its former king has been deposed, mutilated, and kept alive while a sanctuary faction controls the town. Randidly's advancing soul skill triggers a Frostbite judgment while he has no mana. After an extended duel leaves him badly injured, a false Lyra joins the battlefield. Randidly recognizes the deception, exposing the Tribulation of Many Faces. He ends the chapter committed to fighting both the judgment and the tribulation at once.
Story so far - through chapter 17 (this book)
Randidly creates the Seven Kata of the Ashen Spear and uses its first move to kill the Frostbite judgment. The Tribulation of Many Faces escapes, then threatens Donnyton while Randidly forcibly combines his ash blessing with Spear of Rot into Cycle of Rot and Ash. During his absence, the tribulation sends raid bosses against Donnyton. Decklan's squad survives with Thorn's help, although Ivan dies after overextending, and the settlement's combined defenders defeat the major beetle boss. The assault costs Donnyton 190 classed and non-classed casualties and prompts plans for major restructuring. On the road, Desmond diverts Randidly with a false rescue request that proves to be a robbery and hostage trap. Randidly kills Desmond when he continues threatening a child. Before dying, Desmond claims that Ace and Randidly's other missing friend are alive north of the Badlands with a self-styled hero named Roy, but the report is unverified. Randidly then receives Shal's request to come to Telus within about a month.
Story so far - through chapter 29 (this book)
Randidly distributes directional blessings to strengthen Donnyton before he may leave. Sam gains a Dawn Smith route, Mrs. Hamilton receives a specialist option suited to planning and control, and Annie gains an advanced archery route. Randidly then challenges Donnyton's squads and its fifty-person raid force, exposing weaknesses in their support protection and coordination. The classers ultimately force him to concede, proving that organized numbers can resist him. He and Lyra repair their working relationship and begin a notification-free training program designed by Mrs. Hamilton. Frankfurd refugees arrive under Alana's leadership, and Raina begins drawing Donnyton. A rabbit-like ambassador from a sister village arrives but struggles to reach the leadership. A Frankfurd investigator separately follows the refugees to assess Donnyton, panics near the village tree, and carries away both the ambassador and an injured child. During his own training, Randidly reaches the hot-cold force that has influenced his growth and learns that it is ether.
Story so far - through chapter 37 (this book)
Sam teaches Randidly mana engraving while Mrs. Hamilton and Lyra continue his disciplined training. When a Donnyton girl and the sister village's ambassador disappear, Alana traces them to the sanctuary. Randidly, Lyra, Alana, and rabbit warriors mount a rescue. The apparent kidnapper proves to be a clone of the Tribulation of Many Faces. Randidly kills it and Lyra saves the captives from the collapsing building, but the enemy's true core remains hidden. The rescue opens negotiations with the sister village. Decklan, Annie, and other Donnyton fighters help it survive a raid-boss siege, establishing an alliance and regular trade. Dozer also rescues a royal Riverdrop Puma that becomes his combat companion. Donnyton grows, gains communications, and faces a new tier-three boss. Randidly finally leaves Earth to answer Shal, deliberately making his absence bait for the tribulation. Lyra follows the enemy to Donnyton and destroys its core, but its dying attack kills Nul and cuts the village off from ether. Lyra begins trying to replace him. On Telus, Shal tells Randidly he must place in the top eight of the Northern Regional Tournament within two months or the Spear Phantom style will become Forsaken.
Story so far - through chapter 45 (this book)
Randidly remains classless and spends accumulated path points on physical development and stronger root control. On Earth, Lyra successfully becomes Donnyton's new village spirit and asks the leadership to hide the transformation from him. She learns that villages have finite ether capacity, that conquest can steal it permanently, and that overuse can make a settlement barren. On Telus, Shal takes Randidly to the last available tournament qualifier, a two-hour platform melee with only three survivors permitted per stage. Randidly's runic skill set allows him to choose a rare emerald tassel, which attracts dangerous attention. He develops scouting root creatures, improves his engraving, and arranges to sell accessible engraved armor through a local merchant, using Ghosthound as the maker's name. When the qualifier begins, two contestants ambush him. Randidly kills one and cripples the other. The violence unsettles him, but he decides that surviving Telus's lethal spear culture is necessary to repay Shal and preserve their style.
Story so far - through chapter 52 (this book)
Randidly reaches a platform controlled by a powerful dual-spear fighter, while a red-haired spearwoman keeps other contestants from interfering. His spear technique cannot match the rival's complete skill set, so he abandons his restriction against magic and returns to the platform after healing. The red-haired fighter then reveals a poisoned whip-spear and a consuming energy tied to the Devourer's line. Randidly fights paralysis, uses a root avatar to survive, and destroys his own spear and equipment while countering her. A Heavy Iron contestant enters but collapses under the pressure and Randidly's pollen. As the duel continues, Randidly traps the dual-spear rival with roots and answers the woman's consuming technique with a huge summoned insect swarm. Some insects escape and injure spectators before he regains control. When time expires, Randidly and both rivals are still counted on the platform. All three survive the qualifier and advance to the Northern Regional Tournament.
Story so far - through chapter 60 (this book)
After qualifying, Randidly identifies himself to the female rival as Ghosthound. He chooses the dangerous Unknown Path, but an unseen presence manipulates his internal ether and creates the Lonesome Spear path instead. Two former qualifier contestants become his attendants: the woman who managed the platform and the disgraced Heavy Iron disciple. The woman takes charge of his growing armor business while Shal focuses on correcting Randidly's weak spear foundation. Randidly eventually tells Shal that he believes defeating a tribulation gave him an internal ether spring. Shal considers the claim dangerously valuable and orders him never to reveal it. Inside a time-accelerated inheritance formation, Randidly builds an image of a slow and inevitable spear thrust powered by his own ether. The training releases a surge through the boat, helping the male attendant create Bulwark of Iron and drawing outside attention. Shal now knows that Randidly's ether can be detected and that powerful styles might kill to possess it.
Story so far - through chapter 68 (this book)
Randidly turns his refined thrust into The Inevitable Phantom Arrives and gains Weeping Cloud, while an unexplained ether pellet remains near his soul skill. His engraving becomes more effective and more threatening to the local guild monopoly. Shal decides that ordinary training will not prepare Randidly in time, so they travel toward a village with a time-dilated prison. Their plan is to earn long sentences, train inside, and escape after recovering Shal's spear. A displaced all-women style trades Randidly engraving theory and a Shadow Rune in exchange for a future promise of help. To secure arrest, Shal orders Randidly to kill a caravan guard. Randidly does so deliberately, then is captured with Shal. Prison authorities recognize Shal and separate the pair, forcing Randidly to devise the rescue himself. Shal also reveals that he killed other prisoners who could have overheard their plan, leaving Randidly increasingly disturbed by both his own choices and his mentor's methods.
Story so far - through chapter 76 (this book)
Inside the ether-isolating prison, Randidly uses torture and battle intent as controlled training while hiding a storage ring. After nearly two subjective months, he reaches the Badlands combat zone, where repeated defeats gradually teach him to survive against stronger spear users. Shadow Rune bracers let him infiltrate the guarded prison and find Shal, but the private cell's protections defeat his first rescue attempt. Randidly then coordinates root creatures to retrieve the key, frees Shal, and escapes with him into the Badlands rather than through the exit portal. Shal resumes punishing spear training, later joined by a veteran instructor who emphasizes balance and efficient combat. Over roughly two subjective years, Randidly improves his fundamentals, studies selected Spear Phantom diary pages, and advances the Path of Carnage. Its mountain trial grants a death-related skill, but a golden chain seals the reward immediately. Concerned that prison life is distorting his disciple, Shal decides they must leave, and Randidly proposes a distraction for the escape.
Story so far - through chapter 83 (this book)
Randidly plans to trigger his approaching Heretic judgment as cover for the breakout. Outside the prison, his woman attendant, male attendant, and the veteran instructor travel to Tomcat to help. Inside, Shal recruits strong prisoners, and a blindfolded fighter joins Randidly as another attendant. The group attacks the prison and climbs toward the portal while Shal confronts the adept warden. On the roof, Randidly completes The Golden Roots of Yggdrasil and deliberately summons a second Frostbite judgment. He kills a guard, fights the returning Yeti, and collapses part of the tower while buying time for the others. The group escapes through the portal, then faces Tomcat's first spear. Shal and the newly awakened veteran instructor force him back, but Shal must promise to return in six months and answer a life-debt for the guards killed. Once clear, Shal breaks Randidly's collarbone as punishment for a killing he considers unnecessary, making their conflict over Randidly's growing readiness to kill explicit.
Story so far - through chapter 90 (this book)
Shal continues the punishment until Randidly accepts that his killings are his own choices. The woman spear attendant helps him recover and argues that one wrongful act does not erase the people he has helped. Randidly resolves to treat life with respect while accepting responsibility for future decisions. His soul skill then destabilizes as emerald crystal accelerates its internal cycle, reinforcing his suspicion that an outside power is directing his development. The group returns to Katal and prepares to travel to Dearden for the tournament. Randidly resumes his engraving business and sells hundreds of pieces while concealing his Shadow Rune. A Crashing Wave artisan recounts the uncertain history of the Spear Phantom founder. The account identifies Shal as the founder's younger son and links his father and elder brother to a suspected heretic. Shal later killed that figure, but conflicting evidence leaves the deaths of his family and the truth of the old confrontation unresolved.
Story so far - through chapter 98 (this book)
Randidly studies the Spear Phantom diary and strengthens The Inevitable Phantom Arrives, but each use of ether risks worsening his unstable soul skill. Shal suffers ether starvation while the attendants train under the boat owner's supervision. The male attendant is finally identified as Tommy. Before the group reaches Dearden, a Merchant Association force boards the boat. Randidly's attendants divide the attackers while he faces a Thunderhammer artisan alone. The woman attendant evolves her style into the rare River's Four Bends and wins her fight. The artisan burns his life through a Forsaken hunger technique and tries to consume Randidly's class, but the attack fails because Randidly has none. Randidly kills him and again questions whether the death was justified. The boat owner warns that this is the level of opposition expected at the regional tournament. Randidly then discovers emerald crystal has consumed the living landscape within his soul-skill visualization. At the actual ending, he is recovering aboard the boat with Shal and the surviving attendants. The blindfolded attendant is ill from ether poisoning, a public sale of Randidly's engravings is planned in two days, and the Northern Regional Tournament has not yet begun.
How does it end? (ending)
Donnyton survives the Tribulation of Many Faces, but Nul is killed during the final attack. Lyra replaces him as the village spirit and conceals her changed condition from Randidly. Donnyton retains its commanders, sister-village alliance, crafting base, and new communications, while its ether supply now depends on Lyra. A northbound search party is pursuing Desmond's unverified lead about Ace, Randidly's other missing friend, and Roy. On Telus, Randidly and Shal escape the time-dilated prison with the veteran instructor and surviving attendants. Shal must return in six months to answer a life-debt for those killed during the breakout, and ether starvation may interfere with his unresolved revenge. Randidly remains classless and is recovering aboard the boat on the way to Dearden. He has qualified for the Northern Regional Tournament, but it has not begun. His engraving business is preparing a public sale, while his debt to the displaced style, sealed Carnage reward, internal ether spring, and dangerously unstable soul skill remain open. Tommy continues training, the woman attendant develops a rare four-move skill set, and the blindfolded attendant is ill from ether poisoning.
