In short (whole book)

Ryan, the time-looping courier Quicksave, enters New Rome seeking his estranged childhood friend Len. Repeated deaths let him investigate the rival Augusti, Dynamis, the Meta Gang, and the Carnival while learning that the Meta has Dynamis elixirs and access to Mechron's buried arsenal. Ryan reunites with Len, reveals his resets, and restores their friendship. He also joins the Augusti engineer Jasmine and helps eliminate Psyshock. Dynamis attacks the Augusti drug facility on Ischia just as the Meta seizes control of the orbital weapon Bahamut. New Rome is devastated and Len dies, but Ryan's allies defeat the Meta force. Augustus captures Adam, destroys Bahamut's control tower, and buries Mechron's bunker. Ryan tells Jasmine the truth, and they attempt to carry her through a reset using violet-enhancing armor. Ryan awakens alone at his original save point, but a recording from Len has crossed the erased timeline. Retaining the armor design and new evidence that information can survive a restart, he begins another attempt to save everyone.

Story so far - through chapter 7 (this book)

Ryan, a courier called Quicksave, establishes a save point outside New Rome and enters the city looking for his missing friend Len. His violet power briefly stops time, while death sends his consciousness back to the save point. When the ice-wielding Meta Gang member Ghoul murders Ryan and a pub full of people, Ryan repeats the encounter and captures him without civilian deaths. Two rival powers approach Ryan. Wyvern invites him to investigate Dynamis's corporate hero team, Il Migliore, while Vulcan offers work for the criminal Augusti. Ryan follows the Augusti route and meets Zanbato, who promises information about Len in return for help against the Meta Gang. During a harbor mission, Ryan recognizes Len's design in Augusti bathyspheres and fights Ghoul and Sarin. A later hotel bombing kills him and erases that progress. On the next attempt, Ryan's warning to Wyvern changes events enough to close the immediate Augusti route. He instead searches Rust Town and learns that Len used the name Underdiver, sold inventions to the Augusti, and was captured by Dynamis after attacking a chemical plant over its treatment of workers. The Meta Gang is abducting Rust Town residents, including children. Before Ryan can act on his new lead, another Meta attacker destroys his car, and Ryan triggers a reset.

Story so far - through chapter 15 (this book)

A memory of 2016 shows teenage Ryan and Len finding three elixirs. Ryan hides the blue and violet doses, while Len's violent father takes the red one and mistakes Ryan for Len's dead brother. Back in New Rome, Ryan refines the Augusti route, joins Zanbato's household, and meets Ki-jung and Lanka. He reaches the Augusti weapons chief, who confirms that Len is her subcontractor, but an unseen attacker later kills the entire household and forces another reset. Ryan changes sides and joins Il Migliore under Enrique Manada's restrictive contract. Dynamis identifies Len as Len Underdiver Sabino and promises access to her. Ryan partners with Atom Cat, an estranged child of Augusti capos whose touch turns objects into bombs. Their investigation finds children living in a neglected Rust Town shelter. The Meta Gang arrives to abduct them because only children can fit through passages into a robot-defended bunker beneath the junkyard. Psyshock, the Meta's nervous-system hijacker, recognizes Ryan as Cesare Sabino. The Augusti weapons chief attacks Ryan for joining Dynamis but then helps prevent Psyshock from taking the children. Ryan kills Psyshock during stopped time. Wyvern defeats the remaining attackers and captures the weapons chief. Their exchange reveals that Wyvern is Laura and Vulcan is Jasmine. Ryan also discovers that an unknown party has breached Dynamis's network.

Story so far - through chapter 23 (this book)

Dynamis releases Jasmine to preserve its truce with Augustus. Laura explains that she and Jasmine were once partners until Jasmine left Dynamis for greater independence with the Augusti. Ryan and Atom Cat suspect that someone inside Dynamis is helping the Meta. After an Augusti harbor force is massacred, they trace a network intruder to Shroud, an invisible glass-controlling Carnival operative. Shroud is investigating corruption within Dynamis and attacking both the Meta and Augusti. He says the Augusti produces Bliss on Ischia and that Len has deliberately avoided Ryan. Psyshock returns despite his apparent death and attacks Shroud's base with an acid-rain controller who can react within Ryan's stopped time. Len rescues Ryan in diving armor, confirming that she is alive, but the attack kills them and resets the loop. Ryan then interrogates Ghoul and bargains with Shroud: Ryan will infiltrate the Augusti and destroy its Bliss laboratory, while Shroud protects the orphanage and helps investigate the Meta. Ryan earns Jasmine's support and survives Pluto's scrutiny by offering a false explanation for his age and foreknowledge. Cancel demonstrates that her nullification field disables his time power. Jasmine finally takes Ryan to Len's deep-sea habitat. Len admits she has known he was nearby for two years. She fears what he has become and blames him for bringing the Carnival to her father. Ryan's search succeeds, but Len refuses immediate reconciliation.

Story so far - through chapter 32 (this book)

After Len rejects him, Ryan continues his obligations to protect Rust Town and destroy the Bliss operation. Shroud reveals that Psyshock survives apparent death through copies or replacement bodies and identifies Bacchus as the Augusti drug chief. Jasmine assembles an Augusti strike force, but its attack on the Meta collapses under Mechron-derived weapons. Psyshock kills Ryan, forcing another reset. A past memory shows Augustus massacring a protected genome community and taking its young second-generation survivor. In a disposable loop, Ryan uses Ghoul as bait and penetrates the Meta's underground base. He discovers an enormous Mechron complex, Dynamis knockoff elixirs, captive test subjects, and Psyshock's ability to transfer into prepared vessels. Frank and the Meta leader overwhelm him, so Ryan ends the attempt with explosives. Before starting the next plan, he speaks openly over his chrono radio about his resets. Len answers and agrees to meet. At the orphanage, Ryan explains that only his consciousness returns to a fixed point, leaving him with centuries of memories from erased timelines. Len remains worried about his stability but asks him to stay and help protect the children. Another memory reveals the danger of Ryan's rabbit plushie. A 2018 experiment connected it to an extradimensional entity that remembers loops, acts protectively toward children, and can multiply into an extinction-level swarm. Ryan keeps the original contained because destroying it may release what inhabits it.

Story so far - through chapter 40 (this book)

Len learns more about Ryan's weapons and the limits of his reset. Shroud finds financial evidence that Dynamis supplies the Meta with elixirs, while the hidden Mechron bunker becomes the central strategic threat. When Psyshock attacks the orphanage, Cancel's nullification prevents his transfer to another body. Greta, the woman behind Cancel, kills him, apparently for good, and Len evacuates the children. The Meta abandons its visible junkyard position but escapes by Mechron submarine. At an Augusti gathering, Ryan meets Narcinia Varan, whose blood creates living organisms, and recognizes her guest Mathias Martel as Shroud. Shroud confirms that Narcinia is the person he has sought. Livia Augusti reveals that she perceives alternate realities but cannot perceive Ryan, and she approves a raid on Dynamis. Ryan and Jasmine steal from its headquarters, beginning a relationship while sharply escalating tensions. At Mount Augustus, Livia argues that Hector Manada probably hired the Meta, though proof remains absent. Augustus accepts her judgment, refuses to punish Ryan and Jasmine for the raid, and orders the Meta Gang exterminated. The old Mercury retires and nominates Zanbato, now identified as Jamie Cutter, as his successor. Augustus appoints Jamie to the position. Bacchus reports progress on a refined Bliss strain and possible tests of Ischia's defenses, so Livia and Jasmine prepare to inspect the island.

Story so far - through chapter 45 (this book)

A 2014 account reveals how Leonard Hargraves led a coalition into Mechron's plague-covered Sarajevo stronghold. Mechron launched two orbital weapons before a black entity emerged through his dimensional gate and annihilated him. Leonard closed the portal by detonating his solar core and later regenerated. Bahamut escaped into deep orbit, while the seer Pythia suffered severe brain damage after leaving a forecast that named Bloodstream as a future extinction threat. In the present, Jamie proposes to Ki-jung. Len discovers that the Meta submarine used a tunnel toward Mechron's bunker and suggests transmitting a copied consciousness through Ryan's temporal anomaly. Ryan and Jasmine begin designing violet-enhancing armor and connect Dynamis neural-interface research with Len's transmission work. On Ischia, Ryan sees the fortified Bliss facility, where Narcinia's plants supply the drug operation. He also meets Geist, a ghost bound to the island by his scattered remains. Livia's alternate selves are dying in large numbers, warning her of an imminent attack. The warning proves correct. Enrique Manada announces that Dynamis has abandoned its truce with the Augusti in response to the headquarters raid. Thirty helicopters arrive with Laura and elite genomes. Laura demands Ryan and Jasmine surrender, but the Ischia defenders refuse. Dynamis begins a direct assault on the Bliss facility, turning political tension into open war.

Story so far - through chapter 50 (this book)

Dynamis attacks Ischia while Ryan, Jasmine, and the Augusti defend it. Len arrives in underwater armor, and Neptune destroys or threatens the attackers' aircraft. After Mortimer kills a Dynamis opponent, Len tells Ryan that his repeated attempts to save everyone are harming him. They restore their friendship, though she asks him to leave New Rome with her once the crisis ends. Livia orders an evacuation as her alternate selves die without warning. Shroud tries to remove Narcinia, but an orbital strike separates Ryan from the island. Ryan reaches the surface to find New Rome devastated. The Meta Gang has entered Mechron's bunker and gained partial control of Bahamut. At the orbital control tower, Ryan fights Adam, Frank, Sarin, and the acid-rain controller. Jasmine, Laura, Jamie, Lanka, Ki-jung's rats, and Augustus reinforce him. Augustus kills the acid-rain controller and Frank, captures Adam alive, destroys the tower, and buries the bunker. The immediate threat ends, but Ischia is nearly destroyed and Len is dead. Geist survives, while Dynamis's remaining forces fall under Alphonse Manada. Ryan tells Jasmine that he travels through time. She builds armor to amplify his power, and they attempt to carry her through the Purple World during his restart. Ryan encounters a vast many-eyed presence and awakens alone at his May 8, 2020 save point. He retains the armor design, and an erased conversation with Len appears on the chrono radio. The recording gives Ryan evidence that information may cross a reset, and he begins another attempt to save New Rome and achieve a perfect run.

How does it end? (ending)

Bahamut's orbital strikes devastate New Rome and nearly erase Ischia. Ryan, Jasmine, Wyvern, Jamie, Lanka, Ki-jung's rats, and Augustus defeat the Meta fighters at the control tower. Sarin, Frank, and the acid-rain controller are killed, while Augustus captures Hannifat Lecter alive. Augustus destroys the tower linking the Meta to Bahamut and buries Mechron's bunker, ending the immediate orbital threat. Len is confirmed dead in this iteration, though Geist survives. Dynamis is badly damaged and now effectively controlled by Alphonse Manada, leaving renewed war with the depleted but still powerful Augusti likely. Ryan reveals his time travel to Jasmine. She completes armor that amplifies his violet power, and they attempt to send her through the Purple World during his reset. The crossing exposes a many-eyed higher-dimensional entity, and Ryan returns alone to May 8, 2020. He remembers the armor design, but Jasmine's fate is unknown. A recording of Len from the erased future appears on the chrono radio, showing that at least some information may cross a reset. Ryan begins another run determined to prevent the catastrophe, keep his promise to Jasmine, and save Len and New Rome. The higher-dimensional entities, Shroud's interest in Narcinia, the Bliss project, and the Augusti-Dynamis conflict remain unresolved.
