The Phoenix Peaks recap

Elaine and Iona become engaged, marry, and advance their classes while Auri accepts an invitation to live among the phoenixes of the Phoenix Peaks. Knight resumes command of the Sentinels as Loonkot's Moon Cult and other foreign pressures threaten Exterreri. Elaine studies spatial runes at Jakhong Monastery, completes a manuscript-copying array, and later gains the Erudite Archmage and Seraph of the Dawn classes. Nearly six years after leaving, Auri misses her promised return. Denied official access to the northern continent, Elaine, Iona, and Fenrir travel there anyway, survive an unidentified attack, and reach the Peaks. They find Auri alive after an unusually long dungeon run caused by an underwater stage. Auri gathers her treasures and leaves with her reunited household, though the northern wardens are now wary of them and several wider threats remain unresolved.

Previously: Elaine is a Chimera Elvenoid healer and Sentinel whose closest household includes her partner Iona, her bonded phoenix Auri, and Iona's bonded frost-wyvern Fenrir. Elaine rescued Auri's egg from Loonkot's lair and later bonded with the phoenix. Iona is a Valkyrie and priest of the moon goddesses Selene and Lunaris. Elaine also has longstanding ties to the ancient vampire Knight, Sentinel commander Arachne, and the married mentors Artemis and Julius. The recent Han Civil War left Elaine carrying the consequences of a vast and difficult healing campaign. She returns from that conflict ready to reconsider both her powers and her future with Iona.

Elaine accepts Iona's unconventional proposal and gives her a sword in return, leaving them engaged and planning a wedding. Elaine's Dawn Sentinel class advances to Arbiter of Life and Death, greatly expanding her healing and defensive potential. While she tests new shields with Iona and Artemis, Arachne summons the couple over three powerful phoenixes searching for Auri. Selene and Lunaris identify the ancient dragon Loonkot as the power behind the Moon Cult, which is attempting to gain political control. The phoenix encounter turns violent when its owl-shaped leader attacks Elaine, but Knight intervenes and confirms that Elaine rescued Auri's egg rather than abducting her. Once Auri returns, the visitors accept her as a phoenix and invite her to the Phoenix Peaks. Auri agrees to visit after Elaine and Iona's wedding, while Elaine worries that the phoenixes may not let her come home. Elaine also tells Iona about a possible future divine ascension, and they commit to facing that future together.

Knight helps Elaine begin processing the aftermath of the Han war and offers to officiate her wedding. A visit by Auri's new phoenix acquaintances nearly kills Fenrir, but Elaine heals him and Iona ends the confrontation. Elaine and Iona then marry during an eclipse ceremony, exchange vows without accepting a system-enforced bond, and receive permanent companion-themed tattoos. At the reception, Iona reconciles with her former squire Nina, who has been training in covert work in Nippon-Koku. Auri leaves with the visiting phoenixes soon afterward. Elaine promises to retrieve her if she has not returned within six years. During the journey, Auri learns that her hummingbird phoenix line was believed extinct. She reaches the northern continent and sees the Phoenix Peaks.

Elaine's concern rises when her bond delivers a sudden surge of levels from the distant Auri, although the bond confirms Auri is alive. Knight resumes command of the Sentinels from Arachne and prohibits Moon Cult membership among Sentinels, Rangers, and their teams. He warns that coordinated foreign pressures are worsening and speculates that breaches in reality may expose Pallas to dangers beyond its pantheon. Elaine receives a lead on spatial-rune study at Jakhong Monastery and begins planning travel that could also take her to the School of Sorcery and Spellcraft and, if necessary, the Phoenix Peaks. Iona is formally accepted at Sentinel meetings despite the reach of her divine perception. Selene and Lunaris then give her a lifelong quest to liberate the moons, which she may defer until late in life. Elaine promises to accompany her. Iona completes her advancement as Valkyrie Paragon, Wyvern Rider Frost Lady, and Relentless Paladin, tying one class directly to her partnership with Fenrir.

Elaine gathers versions of her medical manuscripts and travels alone to Jakhong Monastery, hoping Knight's giant runesmith friend will create an array that can reproduce them. The runesmith refuses the commission, judging the books sufficiently widespread, but allows Elaine to stay, contribute to monastery life, and learn by observation. His structural advice eventually gives her the missing idea for her own design. On returning home, Elaine and Iona discover that an impersonator forged property sales on their mountain. They accept most of the legitimate buyers rather than begin a damaging legal struggle, though the larger sabotage effort remains unresolved. Nearly six years after Auri's departure, she misses her promised return while her bond still proves she is alive and gaining levels. Elaine finishes her manuscript-copying array and prepares a search with Iona and Fenrir. The Wardens deny them permission to enter the northern continent, so the three set out for the School of Sorcery and Spellcraft as the first stage of an unauthorized route north.

At the School of Sorcery and Spellcraft, Elaine and Iona reunite with Artemis and Julius. Artemis has established herself as the surviving founder of the school's legacy and now teaches on a protected island. She helps Elaine replace her flexible shield with Event Horizon and suggests a way for the travelers to leave the school with Fenrir while it passes over the North Pole. Elaine rejuvenates Julius, but White Dove responds by cursing the weapons he carries with the weight of his past killings. A forbidden historical account then reveals that the Pekari's apparent raids form controlled progression trials, knowledge that undermines their intended challenge. Elaine completes two major class changes, becoming an Erudite Archmage and a Seraph of the Dawn. She gains stronger spatial, scholarly, flight, radiance, and anti-illusion abilities, then practices them and prepares magic for extreme northern conditions. With their equipment and escape plan ready, Elaine, Iona, and Fenrir can begin the search for Auri.

Elaine, Iona, and Fenrir secretly depart over the North Pole and enter the northern wilderness. An unseen attacker using jade-colored ice and a vast scorpion-like projection repeatedly inflicts fatal wounds, but Elaine's continuous healing keeps all three alive until Fenrir carries them clear. They proceed by stealth, avoiding creatures powerful enough to overwhelm them, and briefly rescue an amphibious predator pup before returning it to adults of its kind. At the Phoenix Peaks, hostile local phoenixes finally direct them toward Auri's dungeon. Masked wardens confirm that a hummingbird phoenix has repeatedly entered it, but no outsider can follow an instanced run. Auri eventually emerges alive and reunites with her household. She explains that her final dungeon attempt became an unexpectedly long underwater stage that the phoenix party had to finish before it could leave. After showing Elaine and Iona her mountain and friends, Auri packs her chosen treasures. A suspicious warden declines to challenge the combined group, and Elaine, Iona, Fenrir, and Auri leave the Peaks together.

Elaine, Iona, Fenrir, and Auri leave the Phoenix Peaks together after learning that Auri's missed return was caused by a prolonged underwater dungeon stage. Auri remains connected to the phoenix friends she made and to the mountain she developed, while the northern wardens now regard her household with suspicion. Elaine and Iona are married, and Elaine has become an Arbiter of Life and Death, Seraph of the Dawn, and Erudite Archmage. Iona carries a divine obligation to liberate the moons, with Elaine committed to joining her when she acts. Knight again commands the Sentinels as Loonkot's Moon Cult and wider foreign pressure remain unresolved. The forged-property campaign has left new neighbors around Elaine's home, Elaine's manuscript-copying array is complete but not yet deployed, and Julius remains burdened by White Dove's weapon curse. The unidentified northern attacker also remains an open danger.
