Ze'ev Kesley (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A twelve-year-old boy from one of Luna's outer sectors, the eldest of two brothers, taken from his family by the queen's recruiters for a soldier programme nobody comes back from. He is bigger than the other recruits and has never used that for anything, and the programme is designed to teach him to.

Ran Kesley (Minor)

Appears from the start

Ze'ev's younger brother, left behind in the sector, too young for the recruiters and openly envious of a selection he does not understand.

Maha Kesley (Minor)

Appears from the start

Ze'ev's mother, who has no way to refuse the recruiters and knows exactly what refusing would cost the rest of her family.

Queen Levana (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The queen of Luna, whose army this is. She never appears as a person the recruits can appeal to, only as the authority that owns them.
