The Thousand Orcs characters

By R.A. Salvatore

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Drizzt Do'Urden (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A dark elf ranger traveling north with the Companions of the Hall. Drizzt reads the growing pattern of attacks as something more dangerous than ordinary raiding and repeatedly ranges ahead to learn what is moving through the wild country.

Bruenor Battlehammer (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

King of Mithral Hall and the stubborn center of the companions. Bruenor's road north becomes a defense of threatened settlements and a test of whether the divided powers of the region will answer an organized invasion together.

Catti-brie (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

Bruenor's adopted daughter and Drizzt's partner, carrying the enchanted bow Taulmaril. Catti-brie is an experienced scout and archer who can hold difficult ground while Drizzt works beyond the main company.

Wulfgar (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

Bruenor's foster son, newly reunited with the companions after years of trauma and isolation. Wulfgar carries Aegis-fang again, but his responsibilities to Delly and Colson now matter as much as reclaiming his old place among the heroes of Icewind Dale.

Regis (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The halfling member of the Companions of the Hall. Regis brings a negotiator's instincts and an enchanted ruby pendant to a group otherwise inclined to meet danger with weapons, though the widening war gives him fewer safe routes around a fight.

Delly Curtie (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Wulfgar's partner and Colson's practical caregiver. Delly is building a family with a man still recovering from captivity and violence, and the journey north brings that fragile household into the orbit of his formidable old companions.

Obould Many-Arrows (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 3

The orc king of Many-Arrows, ambitious enough to turn scattered tribes into an army. Obould seeks lasting power in the North and treats alliances with giants and hidden advisers as tools for a campaign far larger than a season of raids.

Gerti Orelsdottr (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 6

A frost giant leader whose warriors give Obould's host the strength to break defenses ordinary orcs could not. Gerti enters the alliance for her own advantage and never mistakes cooperation with the orc king for submission to him.

Tos'un Armgo (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 6

A drow warrior traveling with the concealed dark-elf faction behind Obould's campaign. Tos'un is skilled with paired blades and willing to encourage surface powers to destroy one another while keeping his own allegiance out of sight.

Kaer'lic Suun Wett (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 6

A drow priestess working among the secret advisers attached to the orc host. Kaer'lic uses religious authority, magic and careful provocation to strengthen the invasion without allowing Obould to understand how much of his opportunity has been arranged for him.

Shoudra Stargleam (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

Mirabar's sceptrana, a spellcaster and civic leader trying to protect a wealthy city whose human rulers and dwarf soldiers do not always value the same loyalties. Shoudra recognizes both the military danger and the political cost of ignoring it.

Torgar Hammerstriker (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

A senior shield dwarf of Mirabar who finds Bruenor's direct sense of duty more persuasive than the caution of distant officials. Torgar commands experienced fighters and must decide whether service to a city requires obedience to leaders who underestimate the war.

Nanfoodle Buswilligan (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 7

A gnome inventor attached to Mirabar's forces. Nanfoodle approaches fortifications and overwhelming enemies as practical problems, applying alchemy and engineering where conventional weapons cannot provide enough force.
