To Fall to Rise

By J.D. Franx

The seventh entry in The Darkness Within Saga continues the war against the Ritek across several fronts. Kale leads an expedition of dragon allies across the ice and rock ocean in search of outcast magic users and a lost wellspring; when lightning brings the dragons down in hostile territory, the group fights off a hunting party and continues northwest on foot. In Solakir, hundreds of hostile arrivals appear inside the fortress by unknown travel magic, and Cassie and the royal family evacuate the children through the ancient prison while the king wields a dangerous void magic to hold the line. Meanwhile, Queen Bael's diplomatic delegation is captured in a coup at a port city and held as leverage in negotiations over wartime mercenary support, with the council ultimately sentencing the captives to execution at dawn.
