Tripwire

The third Jack Reacher novel finds the former military police major living anonymously in Key West when a private investigator named Costello tracks him down on behalf of a client identified only as Mrs. Jacob. When Costello turns up tortured and murdered soon after, Reacher leaves his hiding place to find out who hired the detective and why, tracing the case to New York and eventually to Jodie Garber, the daughter of Reacher's former commanding officer, Leon Garber, who had died only days earlier. Their inquiry crosses the ruthless Wall Street lender Hook Hobie, who is using coercive loans to seize a struggling manufacturer while working to prevent an old, carefully guarded secret from coming to light, and who moves to eliminate anyone who might expose it.
