Twelve Months

By Jim Butcher

The eighteenth Dresden Files novel picks up weeks after the Battle of Chicago, with Harry Dresden physically recovering but destabilized by grief over Karrin Murphy's death while sheltering displaced families in his castle. Mab has ordered him into a political marriage with Lara Raith within the year, and their first public date launches an uneasy alliance even as Harry searches for Thomas's missing partner Justine and keeps his imprisoned, hungering brother Thomas in stasis at Demon Reach. When Thomas's coerced attack on Svartal king Etri threatens war, Harry is given a year to prove Thomas was possessed or surrender him for execution. He also takes on a struggling new apprentice, Fitz, whose magic surged out of control during the battle, and confronts an organized wave of ghoul-related disappearances in the city.
