Continuing the series, Joe is coping with severely damaged mana channels that conventional restoration has repaired only partially, ending his apprenticeship under Grandmaster Snow to pursue a different recovery method while continuing to lead his sect's ritual training. A visiting Grandmaster offers him a lucrative but demanding quest to reliably track down Jotunheim's World Boss, and a powerful, cat-formed queen reveals that Joe's own patron god owes him an enormous, dangerous karmic debt shaping the opportunities and threats around him. Balancing training, alchemy, and negotiations over how his diminished state might let him reach a higher characteristic threshold, Joe eventually withdraws alone into the wilderness to experiment with mana-disrupting formations - a choice with unexpected consequences for the region around his sect.
