The outside world arrives in force when the Sword Sage, a powerful artist from beyond the valley, comes to Sacred Valley with his disciple Yerin, bringing conflict the valley is unprepared for. Yerin is a hardened young sword artist, far more experienced in real fighting than anyone Lindon knows, and she carries a dangerous blood-madra presence bound to her by her master's art. The upheaval that follows leaves Yerin without her master and shakes the valley's fragile order. Recognizing a kindred determination in one another, Lindon and Yerin join forces. For Lindon, allying with an outsider who has seen the wider world confirms what Suriel showed him and sharpens his resolve to escape the valley and grow strong, while the events surrounding the Sword Sage make plain that Sacred Valley can no longer stay sealed away from what lies beyond it.

In the aftermath, Lindon finally breaks with the only home he has ever known. He carries a warning about his home's fate, a few hard-won gains, and an ambition to grow strong enough to change what Suriel showed him. The two of them set out together into a world of vastly greater powers, with Lindon's climb only just beginning.
