By EA Hooper

Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Vincent (Protagonist)

Appears from the start

A 70-year-old widower and experienced challenge gamer, Vincent enters World-Tree Online as a temporary refuge from grief near the second anniversary of his wife Monica's death. He expects a demanding game, not a lasting second life.

Monica (Minor)

Appears from the start

Vincent's late wife, whose death nearly two years earlier still weighs on him. His grief helps lead him to enter World-Tree Online as a temporary distraction.

Jim (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Vincent's lifelong friend is already a veteran of World-Tree Online, with more than a decade of in-game experience. He urges Vincent to join and approaches the virtual world as a place to live rather than a brief diversion.

ARKUS (Supporting)

Appears from the start

The artificial intelligence behind World-Tree Online and its nanomachine technology. ARKUS also designed technology intended to extend human life, though the system's construction and decisions remain poorly understood.

Gazal (Minor)

Also known as Gazal the Forest Lord

First appears in chapter 2

A reclusive B-class world boss in Terramor. Gazal becomes the target of Vincent's solo Ranger quest, but their first encounter ends immediately when the inexperienced player attacks despite a warning.

Crow-Foot Jim (Supporting)

Also known as Jim

First appears in chapter 2

Jim's player identity in World-Tree Online. Crow-Foot Jim is an experienced Rogue based near Night Rest, and his practical knowledge makes him Vincent's first guide to the game's dangers and systems.

Lucas (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A low-tier sheriff-moderator who pursues abusive players alongside Harper. Lucas possesses enforcement powers unavailable to ordinary players, resents his limited rank, and has an attachment to Harper that she does not return.

Harper (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A beta player and more capable sheriff-moderator who works beside Lucas. Harper is committed to keeping order and takes the unprecedented update seriously, while making clear that she does not share Lucas's romantic interest.

Senior Moderator (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 5

The last senior moderator known to retain enforcement powers after the update. Lucas immobilizes her with Mod Gun in Midagar and conceals her under rubble when he cannot release or kill her.

Quinn (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 8

Terramor's reigning arena champion, Quinn is a Fighter-Rogue whose speed, close combat skill, Breaker strikes, and Impact Shield make her a formidable opponent. She joins Vincent's proposed climb while seeking a way back to her husband and son.

Xan (Supporting)

Also known as Pale Alexandria

First appears in chapter 9

A Cleric with sword training and an experimental Light Drain ability. Xan joins Vincent and Quinn because she wants to grow beyond her dependence on family, even though leaving Terramor and its familiar protections frightens her.

Draxas (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 11

A lich world boss that migrated to Fountmel after ruining another world's ecosystem. Draxas spreads a destructive miasma and regenerates through a concealed magical tether. Xan exposes that link with Light Drain, enabling Vincent to destroy it and kill the lich permanently.

Silver Eric (Supporting)

Also known as Eric

First appears in chapter 15

A Justiciar aligned with Lucas who accompanies the attempted entry into Midrun. Eric is among the Snowcrag-selected followers caught in the city's defensive ambush after Lucas tries to impose his authority.

Ice Knight (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 21

A high-level Mage-Rogue and former member of the Great Vanguard. The Ice Knight has spent days fighting the creature exploiting Valaheim's exposed world magic and helps Vincent's party seal the leaks that sustain it.

Sam (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

A covert ally inside Lucas's organization whose party affiliation exposes his connection to Vincent's side. Once discovered, Sam is banned and sent to the dungeon, leaving the rebels without direct contact from their source.

Farah (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

A high-level former beta tester serving among Lucas's defenders. Farah has advanced as far as Styxis and is especially interested in understanding the negative-energy techniques used by the Void Knights.

Wolf Lord (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

A mercenary commander and skilled strategist among Lucas's leading defenders. The Wolf Lord has encountered a Demon Lord on the route toward the angels and suspects its power may be related to the Void Knights' negative energy.

Grand Chancellor (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

A senior official in Lucas's regime and Sam's brother. The Grand Chancellor is part of the command structure organizing Midrun's layered defense after Sam's covert allegiance is exposed.

Valerie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 33

An imprisoned moderator identified on Sam's map of Lucas's dungeon. Valerie is one of the captives the rebels hope to locate inside the castle during their assault on Midrun.

Zhang (Minor)

First appears in chapter 33

One of the prisoners marked on Sam's map of the castle dungeon. Zhang's location is part of the intelligence guiding Vincent's attempt to reach and release Lucas's long-held captives.

Athena (Minor)

First appears in chapter 35

A rebel healer who survives the devastating rune bombardment during the advance through Midrun. Athena works with Xan to revive and treat the remaining attackers before the reduced group continues toward the castle.

River (Minor)

First appears in chapter 35

A member of the rebel assault force who survives the rune bombardment in Midrun. River is one of only six immediate survivors still able to press onward toward Lucas's castle.
