Dead Reckoning

The fifteenth entry in Omega Force finds Cage and the synth Lucky held captive after a rescue that turns out to be anything but: their captor, a shipowner hunting stolen battle-synth technology, discovers Lucky's mimic hardware has already been removed and instead conscripts them for an unclear mission under threat of a hidden explosive device. While Cage feigns illness to probe the ship's systems and Lucky works the crew for allies, Jason Burke and Combat Unit 701 chase a financial trail through brokers and a core-world bank to track the captor down, even as their home base on Satora is seized by hostile authorities and Omega Force is forced into a scattered evacuation. As the search narrows toward a world of anonymous mercenary contracts, a separate crisis brews back at Omega Force: a rejuvenation procedure has left Crusher dangerously unstable and exposed a genetic secret that could get him killed if the wrong people learn of it.
