Jason Burke (Protagonist)

Omega Force's leader pursues Lucky and Cage through an indirect intelligence operation, working with a battle synth whose methods and judgment do not always match his own. He intends to find the prisoners without warning their captor.

David Byrne (Protagonist)

Also known as Jason Burke

First appears in chapter 12

The false identity Jason Burke adopts while entering the financier's mercenary force. He presents David Byrne as a veteran from Nicene III, allowing him to remain near Combat Unit 701 and search for Lucky from inside the operation.

Lucky (Supporting)

Also known as Seven, Combat Unit 777

Appears from the start

An Omega Force battle synth held aboard the shipowner's vessel with Cage. His former mimic hardware is gone, so the captor seeks another use for him. Lucky remains compliant while Cage is medically vulnerable.

Cage (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Omega Force's network specialist awakens after prolonged medical treatment to find himself captive with Lucky. His condition gives their captor leverage, limiting Lucky's options for escape while the shipowner decides how to use them.

Combat Unit 701 (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

A battle synth who joins Jason's careful search for Lucky and Cage. He and Jason disagree about tactics, but they share the immediate goal of locating the prisoners without warning their captor or endangering them.

Combat Unit 302 (Supporting)

Also known as Combat Unit 701, 701

First appears in chapter 17

The operational designation used for Combat Unit 701 after altered appearance prevents another prototype from recognizing him. The identity lets him remain embedded beside Jason in the hidden mercenary force.

Crusher (Supporting)

Also known as Felex, Guardian Archon

First appears in chapter 3

An Omega Force combatant recovering from a rejuvenation procedure that has caused dangerous aggression. He is also Felex, Guardian Archon of Galvatore, making both his treatment and Doc's findings politically lethal secrets.

Doc (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

Omega Force's medic and researcher. He stabilizes Crusher after a hazardous rejuvenation and discovers that the Galvetic warrior caste has a concealed genetic origin. Either discovery could bring severe consequences if exposed.

Twingo (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

Omega Force's engineer, working with Doc to obtain discreet help for Crusher's dangerous condition and the political risks surrounding it.

Mazer Reddix (Supporting)

Also known as Mazer

First appears in chapter 3

A Galvetic associate of Felex who learns that Felex has broken a foundational obligation. He must weigh personal loyalty and the danger surrounding Crusher's condition against his duty to Galvatore, sharing the decision with his brother Morakar.

Morakar Reddix (Supporting)

Also known as Morakar

First appears in chapter 3

Mazer's brother and a Galvetic associate of Felex. After Mazer tells him that Felex has broken a foundational obligation, the brothers defer their decision on whether to protect Felex or uphold their duty to Galvatore.

Saditava Mok (Supporting)

Appears from the start

An Esquarian intelligence minister known to Omega Force.

Crisstof Dalton (Minor)

First appears in chapter 21

A Cridal political leader whose reported assassination by Carolyn Whitney intensifies a wider regional crisis and places Jason and an associate at risk from retaliatory strike teams while Omega Force is already dispersed.

Carolyn Whitney (Minor)

First appears in chapter 21

The reported assassin of Crisstof Dalton. The killing heightens regional tensions and leaves Jason and an associate exposed to retaliatory strike teams.

Shipowner (Antagonist)

Appears from the start

The shipowner holds Lucky and Cage aboard his vessel. After learning that Lucky no longer carries the battle-synth technology he wanted, he threatens Cage and seeks another use for Lucky.

Crime-family leader impostor (Antagonist)

Also known as Shipowner

First appears in chapter 24

The apparent crime-family leader is exposed as an impostor using the identity of someone killed during an earlier Esquarian operation. The discovery casts doubt on his claim that his hidden mission is meant to recover captive relatives.

Combat Unit P-002 (Antagonist)

Also known as Most Favored Blade

Appears from the start

The captor's synth enforcer and Lucky's hostile former prototype commander. He takes custody of Lucky after a scan confirms that the mimic hardware sought by their owner has been removed, leaving the prisoners exposed to a revised plan.

Unstable prototype synth (Antagonist)

A violent prototype controlled by the crime financier. Its increasingly indiscriminate conduct makes it unsuitable for precise work, so Lucky is used to assess the mercenary recruits instead while the prototype remains a threat.

Rival underboss (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 22

A rival syndicate underboss whose information is needed to locate the people sought by the crime-family leader. His daughter has been abducted without injury and is held as leverage against him, making his cooperation central to the operation.

Rival underboss's daughter (Minor)

A young woman targeted for abduction because of her importance to the crime financier's plan. Lucky is ordered to keep her unharmed and places her in protective transport after tranquilizing her during the raid on her compound.

An unwilling member of the captor's engineering crew who helps fit Lucky with a tamper-proof explosive pack. The worker covertly adds a delay to reduce the device's immediate lethality.

Prue engineer (Minor)

First appears in chapter 7

A civilian Prue engineer recruited by Jason to pose as a banking investigator. The engineer uses forged credentials to reach a secure terminal, installs Cage's tracking software, obtains transaction data, and leaves with Jason and 701 without exposure.

Mercenary guildmaster (Minor)

First appears in chapter 9

A hostile mercenary guildmaster and old adversary of Jason. The guildmaster's detention gives Jason access to a ship and its communications, which Jason searches for the financier's recruitment activity.

Captive syndicate founder's descendant (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 29

One of five founders' descendants held in an ancient fortress. Esquarian intelligence warns that their public return could consolidate the criminal syndicates, and Omega Force is hired to prevent their escape.

Jorvren Ma'Fredich (Minor)

First appears in chapter 4

A Viren financial broker believed to handle concealed funding for the shipowner. The broker refuses to betray the client directly but indicates that information about the covert operation can be bought.
