In short (whole book)

The Integration strands Zac on a reshaped island, where a freak System lottery gives him the strength and obligations of a defier. He builds an outpost, takes the rare Hatchet Man class, develops three early Dao seeds, and wages a solitary campaign against a demon incursion. After killing the heralds and surviving a battle for two Fruits of Ascension, he evolves to Human E and forms a guarded alliance with Ogras and the stranded demons. Their settlement becomes Port Atwood, gains a hidden creator shipyard and merchant headquarters, and survives a vast wolf horde. Zac then opens a private teleportation route, helps Winterleaf Village, confronts the abusive ruler Roger, and brings Emily home with him. Port Atwood's second horde is a Hive Queen tunneling toward its Nexus vein. Zac and his allies destroy the queen's core from inside the hive. With Ogras secluded and the settlement recovering, Zac leaves for New Washington to seek information about his missing family while his lord defense remains incomplete.

Story so far - through chapter 9 (this book)

Earth is forcibly integrated into a larger multiverse, its geography rearranged and its wildlife strengthened. Zac survives when a herald appears at his location and a personalized lottery eliminates the invader instead of him. He awakens alone under two suns, badly injured after fighting a demonic beast, while his girlfriend and the other campers are missing. The former road now ends at an ocean, leaving him isolated on what appears to be an island. A red pillar marks an incursion elsewhere on the landmass. Zac learns that the lottery cost him the normal tutorial but left him at level 16 with unusual titles and bonuses. He activates an outpost around the camper. A temporary stargazer administrator explains that most eligible people went to tutorial towns, while Zac is a rare defier who cannot naturally cultivate but has gained exceptional advantages. She warns him that the outpost must grow into a town and that the incursion must be stopped. Zac therefore cannot simply leave to search for his father and younger sister. He begins purchasing basic arrays, concealing the camp, and preparing to become strong enough to survive the island.

Story so far - through chapter 22 (this book)

Zac turns the concealed camper outpost into a training base. A gathering array lets him receive cosmic energy despite his inability to absorb it naturally, while a gravity array helps raise his physical foundation. He assigns his unused attributes toward a durable close-combat build and hunts the demonic beasts roaming the island. His enhanced vitality saves him from repeated wounds, though new enemies prove increasingly dangerous. A winged imp nearly kills him with black fire before a desperate thrown hatchet ends the fight. After weeks of hunting, Zac reaches level 23 and buys Eye of Discernment, allowing him to identify local demon types. His quests require him to kill four heralds and the incursion general within three months, then close or conquer the incursion and defend the resulting settlement. He attacks a level-45 western herald using a concealed stake trap. The trap succeeds, but Zac escapes with a broken arm, severe lacerations, and other injuries while responding beasts pursue him. Two heralds are now dead, including the one eliminated during the opening lottery, but Zac remains alone and still knows little about the organized force behind them.

Story so far - through chapter 38 (this book)

Humanoid demon scouts reveal that the invasion belongs to Clan Azh'Rezak and that Ogras leads it. Zac ambushes a scouting party and tries to question a captive, but the prisoner self-destructs even after death. The victory brings Zac to level 25 and unlocks his class choices. He selects the rare Hatchet Man class, gaining strong physical growth and quests for Axe Mastery, Chop, and Forester's Constitution. The invaders intensify their search. Zac defeats another well-equipped demon party and claims useful armor, weapons, crystals, and a storage pouch. By rebuilding his improvised energy circulation around his class fractal, he gains better control and can activate some of the captured equipment. Inside the demon camp, Ogras is shown concealing his actual cultivation behind the image of a privileged failure. He suspects that Rydel, a heavily supported main-branch heir, may be watching or targeting him. Zac scouts the fortified settlement and estimates that thousands of demons occupy the island. A direct assault is impossible, so he focuses on completing his class skills and finding the remaining heralds before the incursion stabilizes.

Story so far - through chapter 49 (this book)

Completing Axe Mastery gives Zac a vision centered on an overwhelming axe strike. His attempt to understand its weight produces an early Dao Seed of Heaviness and makes him the world's third Child of Dao. Axe Mastery also supplies guided combat movements, while completing Chop adds a close-range energy edge to his weapon. A demon war party discovers the hidden camp, and Zac is badly wounded while preventing it from raising an alarm. Zac then moves into the western mountains to find the stone-monkey herald. The peaks surround a concealed valley with unusually dense cosmic energy, a blue lake, and a scarlet tree that appears to drain the nearby land. Beneath that tree he finds the Monkey King, Cindermane. The level-58 herald controls heat and stone and can summon buried monkey reinforcements. Zac cuts a deep wound across Cindermane's chest but cannot finish the fight. He retreats through a monkey horde, seals himself inside a cavern system, and later confirms from his quest count that Cindermane survived. Deeper underground, Zac finds unfamiliar plants as the energy density rises. A lone imp in the tunnels leads him to suspect that another herald may be somewhere below.

Story so far - through chapter 60 (this book)

Zac follows the cavern imps to a guarded cauldron operation run by a large robed imp. He attacks, survives its black fire and barrier, and forces Chop beyond its former limit so the cutting edge can travel away from his axe. The projected strike kills the imp, and the quest confirms it was another herald. Zac escapes with the cauldron but collapses from burns, exhaustion, and apparent poison exposure. Cindermane and the incursion general are the last required targets. After recovering, Zac discovers that his Strength has reached a racial cap. He stops cultivating while searching for a way to evolve and raids the demons' Nexus Crystal mine. A large theft gives him thousands of raw crystals, but hidden tracking stones allow the miners to ambush him. He survives coordinated attacks and self-destructions at severe cost. A System vision then announces that two Fruits of Ascension will soon ripen on Cindermane's scarlet tree. Believing the fruit may solve his blocked evolution, Zac commits to entering the coming struggle even though Cindermane and the demon leadership are likely to converge there.

Story so far - through chapter 66 (this book)

Rydel invokes clan rules to take command of the army and marches on the Tree of Ascension, apparently confining Ogras to the demon settlement. Zac infiltrates the resulting battle between demons and stone monkeys. Near the tree, Rydel fights Cindermane while Zac waits for the protective shield around the fruit to fall. He disrupts both competitors at the decisive moment and seizes both Fruits of Ascension. During the escape, Zac kills Cindermane and combines Chop with the Dao of Heaviness to injure Rydel. Rydel nearly kills him in return, but a disguised Ogras strikes his cousin from behind. Ogras then revives from apparent death, speaks to Zac in English, and helps create a poisonous cloud with the captured imp cauldron. Zac escapes through the azure lake and consumes one fruit while poisoned, triggering a violent transformation. He awakens as Human E with a higher Strength limit. The System marks all four heralds and the general dead, and the red incursion pillar vanishes. The larger lord quest remains active, however, requiring Zac to hold the outpost against other alignments for the remainder of a three-month term.

Story so far - through chapter 77 (this book)

A demon scribe explains that Ogras was the expedition leader, while Rydel was the white-haired battlefield commander Zac had taken for the general. Ogras secretly advanced to level 73, killed Rydel, and used a death-feigning pill to satisfy Zac's quest. The failed invaders who remained behind are stranded and cannot own a System town. Ogras therefore proposes a guarded alliance: demon labor, expertise, and defense in exchange for sanctuary. Zac agrees while keeping Ogras's killing of Rydel secret. Ogras identifies the unfinished lord objective as a recurring monster-horde defense. Zac also learns that repeated use of the azure water has damaged his energy pathways, limiting his ability to recover cosmic energy. His incursion reward includes valuable equipment, crystals, and a creator shipyard capable of producing increasingly advanced vessels. Because that facility would attract hostile powers, its golem workers disguise it as an ordinary dock. Zac names the growing settlement Port Atwood, acquires a desperate Thayer Consortium headquarters to support trade, and works with demon specialists on walls, districts, and a future academy. The new allies have roughly forty days to turn the former camp into a defensible town.

Story so far - through chapter 88 (this book)

Port Atwood funds its defenses by refining crystals from the mountain and selling them through the Thayer Consortium. Alan tutors Zac in cultivation, class advancement, and the accepted history of the System. Zac completes Forester's Constitution, gains an early Seed of Trees, and unlocks the Loamwalker movement skill, though his damaged pathways still constrain him. Ogras reveals four hidden retainers: Ilvir, Janos, Namis, and Alea. Together with roughly two hundred demon defenders, they man Port Atwood's new walls when the first horde begins. The opening waves are wolves, and the defenders initially use the walls to control the fighting and gain contribution rewards. Zac and Ogras compete for credit while conserving scarce defensive resources. Zac adopts the ladder name Super Brother Man as a private signal to Mackenzie. Elsewhere, she recognizes the childhood name while living with Lila in coercively ruled Kingsbury, proving to her that Zac is alive. Other viewpoints reveal independent rankers including Thea Marshall and Billy, while a government task force tries to identify or locate powerful cultivators. Zac and Mackenzie still have no way to find one another.

Story so far - through chapter 96 (this book)

The wolf horde continues for three weeks and escalates through spectral, stone, psychic, metallic, and mixed waves. Port Atwood's wall is repeatedly breached, and its E-grade defense array consumes an unsustainable amount of crystals. Zac develops his axe energy skill into a multi-blade attack, but the defenders are exhausted and suffer casualties. A one-use lightning array destroys the enormous next-to-last wave at the cost of further damage to the town's defenses. The final enemy is an E-grade fiend wolf whose Dao of Sharpness tears through both the ruined wall and the remaining shield. Zac fights it directly with help from Ogras and Alea. Alea's poison wounds the monster, but it leaves her critically injured. Zac grasps the quality behind its attacks, manifests the same sharpness through his axe, and kills it, gaining an early Seed of Sharpness. The first horde stage is complete. During the interval, Zac reaches level 50, buys a spirit-tool axe intended to grow with him, and uses costly medicine and E-grade crystals to repair his pathways. As the settlement recovers, twelve human castaways arrive by boat.

Story so far - through chapter 102 (this book)

The castaways fled an island overrun by enlarged rats and know little about the System. Zac allows them to remain under restrictions because Port Atwood’s demon population and resources must stay hidden. He then buys a private teleportation array and travels to Winterleaf Village, a weak settlement of fawn-like people integrated alongside humanity. The System’s solo Monster Hunt quest awards him an automatic map for killing a mutated mink, while the village’s castellan, Selas, gives him a token for a future worldwide treasure hunt. Seeking information about his family, Zac travels onward to Fort Roger. The settlement’s cultivator ruler controls its vehicles, fuel, and armed men. Zac learns that Roger ordered the torture and execution of Emily’s parents when they tried to remove her from town. He kills three men sent to seize the teenager, publicly warns Roger against further abuse, and retrieves the bodies for burial. Zac nevertheless leaves Roger alive because the town has no replacement capable of protecting its civilians. Emily, too young to enter the System but determined to become strong, chooses to accompany Zac to Port Atwood. Her cultivator siblings, Joanna and Oscar, remain missing.

Story so far - through chapter 110 (this book)

Winterleaf Village closes its teleportation connection after Zac and Emily return, blocking his intended route toward Fairfield. At Port Atwood, the human arrivals have split into an uncooperative group and older fishing villagers willing to work. Their spokesman, Sap Trang, proposes cultivation, hunting, and maritime service in return for resources and a home. Zac invests in the cooperative group and sends Emily to Alan for preparation, while forbidding the teacher's former harsh methods. Emily has elemental aptitude but insists on continuing axe practice. The second horde appears as a huge living hive rather than a direct assault. Its insect forces cover a queen that is tunneling toward Port Atwood's Nexus vein. After several days of farming the attackers, Zac insists on ending the threat before the vein is reached. Information from the town indicates that the queen can be stopped only by destroying its internal core. Zac, Ogras, Alea, Janos, an earth-mage scout, and a pyromancer enter the spatially expanded hive. Traps separate Zac from the others, but he survives an acid chamber and reunites with most of the force. The pyromancer dies, and four royal guards protect the core. The group's opening ambush fails because the guards' life force shields it.

Story so far - through chapter 113 (this book)

The core suppresses Zac and Alea's Dao use while the strike force battles the royal guards. Ogras is badly wounded, Janos exhausts his energy, and another member of the group dies. Zac and Ogras destroy three specialized guards, then coordinate a short finishing window against the final armored defender. Ogras kills it with a concentrated shadow attack. With the core exposed, Zac invokes Nature's Punishment, a giant wooden hand that crushes the crystal and injures his own arm. The queen dies, its remaining insects become inert, and the hidden interior begins collapsing. Zac carries the unconscious Alea and Janos while he and Ogras escape. Outside, Port Atwood's defenders have survived, including Sap Trang. The second lord-quest phase is complete, and Zac reaches level 54. Emily deduces that the demons were invaders, so Zac confirms that they reached an agreement after the incursion failed. Ogras buys the remaining Fruit of Ascension and enters seclusion to absorb it. Zac organizes coastal reconnaissance with human sailors and demon teams, while Sap Trang reaches level 25. Port Atwood has survived another stage, but the full three-month defense remains unfinished.

Story so far - through chapter 115 (this book)

Sap Trang selects the uncommon Wave Whisperer class and prepares to help Port Atwood explore the surrounding waters. Emily continues mage preparation and daily axe practice, but Zac refuses to take her through the teleportation network before she can use defensive treasures. He plans to obtain cultivation manuals for her and for the settlement's future academy. Before leaving, Zac and Alea return to the mountain battlefield. The scarlet tree has absorbed the old poison cloud and turned purple, leaving its future and any later fruit uncertain. Zac recovers Rydel's storage pouches, including the invasion's reserve of weapons, pills, food, crystals, and siege equipment. He distributes useful supplies to Port Atwood's defenders and keeps the remainder for future rewards and security. Ogras remains alive in seclusion with the Fruit of Ascension. Alea and Janos survived the hive battle, while Sap Trang's group is integrated into the settlement and its scouting plans. Zac's family is still missing, Roger remains in control of Fort Roger under warning, and later horde phases remain ahead. Zac activates his private teleportation array and departs for New Washington to seek broader information. An unidentified observer watches him leave and withdraws into the shadows.

How does it end? (ending)

Port Atwood survives the Hive Queen's assault after Zac, Ogras, Alea, and Janos destroy its protected core from within. Alea and Janos escape injured but alive, while Sap Trang and his fishing group remain part of the settlement's growing human population. Ogras buys the remaining Fruit of Ascension and enters seclusion to absorb it. The concealed creator shipyard, crystal wealth, demon defenders, and coastal scouting program give Port Atwood a stronger foundation, but Zac's three-month lord defense is still unfinished. Emily trains under Alan while awaiting the age when she can enter the System, and her siblings remain missing. Mackenzie knows Zac survived but remains in Kingsbury, and Zac has found neither her nor his father. Fort Roger remains under Roger's rule after Zac warns but spares him. Zac recovers the invasion's reserve resources, keeps a treasure-hunt token, and leaves through his private teleportation array for New Washington. The altered scarlet tree, later horde phases, Ogras's loyalties, the family search, and an unidentified observer at Zac's departure remain unresolved.
