An elite tattooed axe fighter selected to test Hadjar and accompany him against the demons. His acceptance must be earned under the customs of the orc hunters before the campaign can begin.

Orc shaman (Supporting)

A spiritual leader who appears through four age-aspects associated with curiosity, wisdom, pride, and freedom. He challenges Hadjar's ideas about identity and draws him into an unexplained vision during the hunter rite.

Orc hunter's wife (Supporting)

The orc hunter's half-human, half-orc wife and a personal link across the border between the two peoples. Her husband leaves her with the tribes when he departs alongside Hadjar on the campaign into occupied territory.

Raven Sect cultivator

A cloaked Raven Sect cultivator accompanied by a raven. His arrival at the border tavern provokes an immediate, hungry reaction from Hadjar's Black Blade.

A lord-level Border Legion officer who arrives with soldiers after Hadjar's duel with the Raven Sect envoy. He recognizes the unusual quality of Hadjar's sword attack, secures the scene, and begins investigating the combatants.

A powerful representative of the gods who appears after Hadjar completes the waterfall ordeal. She approves action against demons that have violated divine law, but warns Hadjar that his own conduct is now under scrutiny.

Half-human demon woman (Antagonist)

A blue-eyed, half-human operative serving the demon prince near the enslaved fields. She is a powerful border agent, and Hadjar chooses to capture her as a possible source of intelligence.

Demon king's daughter (Antagonist)

The half-human border operative captured and bound by Hadjar. While she leads him out of the gorge, he recognizes her as the demon king's daughter.

Demon king (Antagonist)

The ruler behind the demon forces occupying the borderlands. His planned expansion seeks to establish a demon empire recognized by the laws of heaven and earth.

Demon prince (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 65

The demon king's expansionist son and a commander near the enslaved fields. Hadjar overhears him discussing the capture of a human fort, a missing operative, and the creation of an empire before ambushing one of his attendants.

Demon queen (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 66

The demon kingdom's co-ruler and an initial nameless-stage cultivator. The captive guide identifies her as a power equal in stage to the king, placing both rulers far beyond the direct fighting strength of Hadjar's party.

Raven Sect challenger (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 94

A Raven Sect swordsman who returns to challenge Hadjar at the Drunken Goose Tavern.

Pirate captain (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 99

A mid-stage spirit-knight commanding the pirate ship that attacks Hadjar's cargo brig. He leads the final attempt to stop Hadjar's journey while the urgent sealed dispatch remains in the cultivator's sole custody.
