A paladin captain presented to Felix's delegation as a High Justiciar. He enters the council chamber after the city's rulers activate a stronger suppression array and joins their effort to seize the visitors for sacrifice.

The High Justiciar who recognized the Minotaur as Unbound during an apparently friendly meeting and tried to detain him. Haim was also searching for a royal tomb in the desert.

The Minotaur (Supporting)

A wounded Earth-born Unbound inhabiting a minotaur body and fleeing Hierocracy paladins in the Scorched Expanse. His necromantic companion can continue speaking through a replacement construct when one body is destroyed.

The Minotaur's Undead Companion (Supporting)

The Minotaur's speaking necromantic companion, able to transfer its presence between constructed bodies. When a scorpion form is destroyed during the flight from paladins, the same voice continues through a multipede.

The Albino Naga Claimant (Antagonist)

An unseen hostile naga-folk claimant who declares the submerged temple its domain and challenges the arriving expedition.

The Naga Ruler (Supporting)

An immense abyssal serpent who rules the submerged temple's naga and challenges Felix's claim to Nym inheritance. The ruler orders him to prove his identity and strength against the threat contained within the temple's mana well.

The Cursed Shaman (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 50

The settlement's former shaman, encountered as a monstrously altered figure inside the immense skeleton. The shaman challenges the purpose of Felix's caravan and attacks his bond with Pit during their confrontation.

The Highest Flame

The minor goddess or Urge identified as the desert city's power source.

The Hidden Healer (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 76

A concealed healer living in the lower chasm who shelters Felix after his violent passage through the city's storm barrier. Her identity and abilities remain unclear when he reaches her dwelling in a badly strained condition.

Zara's Sister (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 78

The chanter who sheltered Felix under the guise of a lower-chasm healer. After revealing her human form and connection to Zara, she leaves the hidden dwelling to help rescue Felix's captured companions.

The Temple Disciple (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 67

A faun temple defender with a strained history as Atar's former rival. She recognizes him at the sealed city gate and accepts his oath that the caravan is fleeing an army, allowing the defenders to open the way.

The Fire Grandmaster (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 75

The city's dominant fire combatant, powerful enough to overwhelm Felix's party after it escapes the council's suppression array. His direct attack leaves Felix badly injured and forces him through the storm barrier.
