Glinda of Oz

By L. Frank Baum

Visiting Glinda the Good at her palace, Dorothy notices a new entry appearing in the Sorceress's Great Book of Records, which notes every event in the world as it happens: two peoples of Oz, the Skeezers and the Flatheads, are on the brink of war. Neither Ozma nor Glinda knows anything about either people. All Glinda can discover is that the Skeezers' home is an enchanted island in a lake at the northern edge of Gillikin territory, that the Flatheads occupy a steep mountain close by, and that both practise magic of their own. Ozma decides that as ruler of all Oz it is her duty to go in person, without an army, and make peace between subjects she has never met, and Dorothy insists on going with her. The two set off together for that remote corner of the country. It is the last of the Oz books written by Baum himself.
