Rezkin (Protagonist)

Appears from the start
The claimant to Asshai's throne and leader of a displaced population. After disclosing that he is Dark Tidings, he travels ahead of the refugee ship to arrange lawful entry and find his people a secure home.
Frisha (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Rezkin's expected partner, now distant after Pallas's death and the disclosure of Rezkin's concealed identity. She worries that magical influence, rather than her own choice, may account for her attraction to him.
Wesson (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A battle mage among Rezkin's displaced followers and one of his trusted advisers. He is ordered to remain aboard the refugee ship when Rezkin leaves alone to prepare the way.
Kai (Supporting)
Also known as striker
Appears from the start
A striker entrusted with scouting and maintaining order among the refugees. Rezkin values his ability and gives him significant responsibility, while remaining watchful about whether Kai's ambitions will continue to match his own.
Tamarin Blackwater (Supporting)

Rezkin's friend and trainee. Displaced from home and uncertain about his family, he still regards Rezkin as the person most capable of keeping their group safe, even as others question the secrets Rezkin has kept from them.
The woodland Fae (Supporting)

A shapeshifting woodland being able to copy living forms, auras, mannerisms, and recent memories while controlling paths through its forest. It offers Rezkin a concealed haven for his people in return for a future army to oppose demons.
Tieran Nirius (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
Rezkin's blood relative and subordinate heir. While enforcing orders aboard the refugee ship, he accepts Rezkin's superior authority despite their family connection and acknowledges his subordinate place in the emerging command structure.
Grabella (Supporting)
Also known as brothel madam
First appears in chapter 4
A brothel manager who provides shelter to women with few alternatives. Cast out by her father after becoming pregnant and later separated from her child, she has made her establishment a place of refuge.
The Cennarian princess (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 4
A sixteen-year-old royal unwillingly engaged to an older foreign prince. A palace poisoning plot places her in immediate danger.
The Jengri assassin (Supporting)

A senior assassin and mage who interprets Rezkin's ability to disrupt his talent as proof that Rezkin is the master awaited by his Order. He offers personal service even though his own leaders have not accepted that claim.
Reaylin de Voss (Supporting)

A companion of Rezkin who gives up her former romantic claim on him and now regards him as a friend.
Shiela (Minor)
First appears in chapter 9
A refugee and companion of Frisha. Aboard Stargazer, she shares quarters with Frisha, Reaylin de Voss, and the princess traveling under concealment, placing her within the close domestic circle around the royal ward.
The Serpent Guild guildmaster (Minor)
First appears in chapter 10
The leader of a criminal guild newly allied with a former rival under the Raven's authority. The two leaders offer protection and partnership to a disfigured nobleman and prepare a mission to extract people.
The Diamond Claws guildmaster (Minor)
First appears in chapter 10
A guild leader who sets aside an old rivalry with the Serpent Guild to work beneath the Raven's emblem. Together, the guildmasters offer a discarded nobleman protection, recruit him into their alliance, and prepare a planned extraction.
The disfigured nobleman (Minor)
First appears in chapter 10
An exiled and disfigured member of a ducal family who sees no future among his relatives. He accepts protection and a useful place in the Raven's allied guild network, then agrees to assist with its coming extraction operation.
Striker Farson (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 16
One of Rezkin's former trainers, arriving among new refugees in disguise to protect his mage niece. Kai identifies him as a serious danger and urges harsher action, but Rezkin permits him to remain within the new settlement under close observation.
Count Jebai (Minor)
First appears in chapter 16
A political prisoner marked as a priority target in the Raven network's prison break. The wounded Benny releases him while the extraction is still in progress, making his safe removal one of the operation's central objectives.
Benny (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 16
A young thief associated with the Raven's network. Though only recently taught to read, he takes charge when a prison-break courier fails, enters the dungeon, suffers a stabbing, and continues freeing the designated captives.
The young swordwoman (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 17
A capable fighter sworn to Rezkin. When a priest challenges her allegiance, she explains that Rezkin earned it by enabling justice against the duke who murdered her father, and she presents that debt as the basis of her continuing loyalty.
General Marcum (Supporting)
Also known as Frisha's uncle
First appears in chapter 19
Frisha's uncle and commander of a northern fortress opposed to King Caydean. He receives Count Jebai's rescued party but distrusts criminal influence and does not accept the Raven's support as proof of Dark Tidings' legitimacy.
The young lord (Minor)
First appears in chapter 20
A nobleman linked to the young swordwoman through his dead brother and their intense, conflicted feelings. Rezkin entrusts him with her unstable life crystal because carrying it herself could endanger her.
