Limitless Lands: The Commander's Tale, a LitRPG adventure

By Dean Henegar

The first entry in the Limitless Lands series is set in a near future where an AI-run VR MMORPG doubles as a covert medical treatment program for elderly and severely impaired patients. Colonel James Raytak, a 93-year-old veteran near death, becomes the treatment's first subject and enters the game to help the AI reconstruct his damaged memory. He creates a Commander, a class built around leading NPC troops rather than fighting directly, and takes his first company of raw recruits through early skirmishes with goblins that cost him soldiers before he can even see his own character sheet. After proving his unit's effectiveness defending a group of loggers, Raytak is promoted and given independent command of the frontier settlement Hayden's Knoll, along with the soldiers and resources to secure it.
