Continuing the series, Noah, Moxie, and Lee return to Arbitage from monster hunting with new runes and rising strength, only to find several unexpected visitors waiting: Contessa, left without a place since her employer's death, Karina, and Alexandra, recently freed from another mage's control and asking to join Noah's lessons. The Linwick family head Jalen demands Noah's presence over stolen catacomb artifacts, and when Noah refuses to travel to him, Jalen begins sending assassins instead. As Noah quietly folds Alexandra into his growing class alongside Todd, Isabel, and Emily, he sets a series of competitive training exercises with a powerful Earth Master Rune as the prize, pushing his students toward teamwork while working to keep his own escalating conflict with the Linwick family from reaching them.
