The Empress of Beasts

The thirteenth entry in The Wandering Inn opens some time after Erin Solstice's death, following the sentient skeleton Toren as he hides within Liscor's dungeon, his damaged body slowly rebuilt by its mana-rich environment. Adopting a masked, more purposeful persona, Toren begins intervening to protect adventurers from the dungeon's dangers rather than only fighting for his own survival. Above ground, Liscor's newly elected council works through contentious reforms covering rent, taxation, and its relationship with the Antinium hive, while the Wall Lord Ilvriss quietly assembles a covert force after learning that a defeated necromancer has survived. Elsewhere, that necromancer begins remotely mentoring the mage Pisces, taking an unexpected interest in ordinary life at the inn even as he tests Pisces with a dangerous, undisclosed creation.
