The Mayor of Noobtown

After dying in a traffic collision, Jim wakes inside a character-creation system run by two unseen operators. Refusing a memory wipe and exploiting a loophole in the class-selection process, he provokes the operators into intervening directly, and the confrontation drops him into the Eternal Realm of Ordinal. There he is bound to Shart, a once-powerful demon reduced to a weakened, rank-one state after Jim accidentally defeats it; the pact ties their survival together and leaves Shart dependent on Jim to reach a demon door. With no starter equipment and no guidance, Jim fights off wolves and a feral goblin on the road to the nearest village, gradually building a Warrior class and then, unexpectedly, a second class as a Rogue, testing the limits of the unique trait that let him bypass the system's usual rules.
