A Lot 700 battle synth associated with the units assigned to protect Jacob. Webb reports that 701 has returned to the battle-synth settlement while the two units traveling with Jacob remain out of radio contact.

One of the two battle synths accompanying Jacob on his unauthorized mission. Webb confirms that 707 remains with him and has stopped responding by radio, increasing concern about the scout lieutenant's situation.

A battle synth traveling with Jacob after the lieutenant goes outside orders. Like 707, Unit 784 is radio silent, leaving Jason and Webb without a direct account of the mission or its present danger and status.

The designation of Lucky's present battle-synth form. Analysis shows that its specialized systems conflict with his older processing matrix, explaining his destabilization but offering no certain cure while he remains missing.

A distinct artificial intelligence shaped by both an earlier program and Jason's neural matrix. Jason regards Kaz as more trustworthy than the archive intelligence and assigns it to observe the archive while plans against the Machine develop.
Mazer Reddix (Supporting)

A special-forces officer and longtime associate of Jason and Crusher. Mazer joins the Platform 66 mission in overall command of thirty-one allied warriors, serving in an observational command role alongside Jason's assault plan.
Machine's synth lieutenant (Antagonist)

A trusted operative serving the Machine and sharing its grievance against biological creators. The lieutenant staged the loss of the intelligence data core so that an alarmed Confed officer would unknowingly help channel the rebellion's response.
Older synth adviser

A former diplomatic attache with extensive political connections who advises the Machine's synth circle. The adviser questions the Machine's cause and is suspected of divided loyalties by both the Machine and its lieutenant.
Defending synth commander (Antagonist)

The armed synth commanding the hidden defenders inside the supposed routing station. Acting for the Machine, the commander surrounds Jason's assault force near the airlock and announces that Jason is to be captured.
Volk (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 30
The personal identity of the sentient archive manager first encountered after Jason's implant was removed. Volk accompanies Jason through a remote link during the Platform 66 operation, where the Machine detects the connection and reaches into the archive.
