Jake (Protagonist)
Appears from the start
A reserved business analyst and dedicated amateur archer who trusts his intuition but usually avoids notice. He is sharing an elevator with several coworkers when the system announces Earth's initiation and sends him into the unknown.
Jake Thayne (Protagonist)
Also known as Jake
First appears in chapter 2
The full name of the reserved analyst introduced as Jake. After awakening in the system's introduction room, he chooses Archer as his tutorial class and receives the skills and starter equipment needed to enter the Great Forest.
Jacob (Supporting)
Appears from the start
Jake's wealthy, charismatic supervisor and friend. His confidence and social ease make him a natural focus for the coworkers caught in the initiation, in contrast with Jake's preference for remaining in the background.
Caroline (Supporting)
Appears from the start
An HR coworker traveling with Jake's elevator group when the initiation begins. Jake is attracted to her, although her interest appears to be directed toward Jacob.
Bertram (Supporting)
Appears from the start
A physically imposing but gentle member of the elevator group with ties to Jacob's upbringing. His size suggests strength, but his calm manner distinguishes him from a conventional enforcer.
Joanna (Supporting)
Appears from the start
The office receptionist and one of the coworkers caught in the same elevator as Jake. She is present with her husband when the initiation begins.
Casper (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 3
A coworker from research and development who reunites with Jake on the tutorial platform. He selects Archer, making him the ten-person group's second ranged weapon specialist alongside the much more practiced Jake.
Richard (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 11
The commanding leader of a much larger armed survivor force. He presents his organization as a cooperative merger, but speaks for it alone and makes clear that Caroline's service as a healer is the central condition of his offer.
Theodore (Minor)
First appears in chapter 11
A member of Jake's original survivor group who receives a serious bite during a hunt. Caroline's healing and a health potion stabilize the injury, demonstrating both the danger of routine encounters and the group's dependence on medical supplies.
Nicholas (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 13
Richard's trusted lieutenant, an experienced archer formerly employed by Richard's private security firm. He leads a seven-person stealth unit sent after Jake and remains outside Jake's immediate perception while directing the pursuit.
Lone teen caster (Minor)
First appears in chapter 23
An unusually powerful teenage caster living at the edge of Richard's growing camp. He keeps his independence, searches for mana potions, and regards the settlement chiefly in terms of what its healers, crafters, and supplies can provide.
Dennis (Minor)
First appears in chapter 28
A coworker from the original tutorial group whose death is reported as the conflict between the two large survivor camps worsens. His loss is part of the mounting evidence that the supposed reprisals are consuming both factions.
Lena (Minor)
First appears in chapter 28
A participant associated with Richard's camp who is reported dead amid the escalating conflict with the rival settlement. Her death is one of several casualties attributed to the cycle of attacks between the two groups.
Ahmed (Minor)
First appears in chapter 28
A caster in Richard's settlement whose class develops a frost specialization. He is among the camp members advancing into more defined combat roles while the conflict with the rival faction intensifies.
William (Antagonist)
Also known as Will
First appears in chapter 29
A Metal Savant embedded in Richard's camp who has secretly murdered parties from both major factions and arranged the evidence to prolong their war. He hides behind a frightened public manner while pursuing his goal of becoming the tutorial's sole survivor.
Hayden (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 29
An ex-military survivor who leads the large camp opposing Richard's organization. His faction believes Richard's side is responsible for the continuing attacks, unaware that William is engineering violence against both settlements.
Malefic Viper
First appears in chapter 21
The poison-focused namesake of the alchemist profession offered inside Jake's challenge dungeon. Accepting that legacy grants Jake specialized alchemical abilities but also leaves him with a dormant toxin he must cure within thirty days.
Lyra (Minor)
First appears in chapter 38
Casper's girlfriend, identified only after she has been murdered during the faction conflict. Her death becomes the personal loss that determines Casper's response to the killer and to the tutorial itself.
Lord Protector (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 46
The deity who has protected the diminished Malefic Order during the Malefic Viper's long absence. The Viper's return places this guardian in a position to help the order respond to its patron's renewed activity.
Malefic Order hallmaster (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 46
The unnamed highest-ranking mortal leader of the reduced Malefic Order. An obelisk signaling the Malefic Viper's return summons her to respond to her patron's renewed activity.
Bearded smith (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 55
A bearded smith who privately approaches William. He invokes their separate divine connections and opens a discussion about a secret alliance.
Hermann Schmidt (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 58
The smith who equips William for the coming war and asks him to avenge family members killed by Richard's people. Hermann gives his remaining life and power to transform the armor into a soulbound Epic legacy bearing his name.
Desmond (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 60
A light caster and Hayden's former second-in-command who organizes the rival camp's last defense. He counters Richard's mass assault with concealed fighters and false defectors after taking on much of the faction's planning.
Wounded rapier fighter (Minor)
First appears in chapter 60
An unnamed, wounded rapier fighter who remains beside Desmond after their faction's defending force is reduced to the two of them.
Unidentified man (Minor)
First appears in chapter 61
A smiling stranger who appears after William collapses from the destruction of Richard's force. He uses a crystal to prevent William from dying, then departs without revealing who he is.
Den Mother (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 68
The leader of the badgers in Badger's Den and Jake's final target within the dungeon. She waits in the boss cavern with several Alpha Venomfang Badgers and is stronger than her subordinates.
Holy Mother (Supporting)
First appears in chapter 69
A primordial deity who invites Jacob into her realm after his class evolves into Augur of Hope. She recruits him as a future speaker and offers her Greater Blessing in exchange for his service.
Andrew (Minor)
Also known as Andy
First appears in chapter 71
Jake's former university roommate, recalled during a dream about an old betrayal. Jake remembers discovering that Andrew had become involved with Madeline while she was still Jake's girlfriend.
Madeline (Minor)
First appears in chapter 71
Jake's former girlfriend, seen through his dream of a painful university memory. Her affair with Andrew left Jake with a betrayal he had avoided fully confronting.
Dream intruder (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 71
A hidden presence uses Andrew's likeness to enter Jake's dream and encourage distrust of Jacob. Its nature remains unknown when the Malefic Viper challenges the projection.
Unseen beast king (Antagonist)
First appears in chapter 73
The unseen ruler of four beast lords that guard separate dungeons. The Beast Lords quest requires defeating all four lords to force their king to appear.
