The Rascor Plains

The second book in the Immortal Great Souls series follows Scorio and his companions as they flee Bastion's Academy after refusing further House affiliation, pursued by former classmates offered rewards for their capture. When the group kills a House Hydra enforcer who is executing protesters, they become entangled in the city's growing rebellion, and Scorio persuades its leaders to delay an uprising for ten days while he travels to the Fiery Shoals to seek the intervention of the White Queen, a powerful ruler who may be able to force the Houses to negotiate. Escorted by Manticore, an independent faction offering conditional protection, the group crosses the dangerous Rascor Plains toward the Shoals, training their emerging abilities along the way and fighting off escalating fiend attacks that threaten to end their mission before it begins.
