Every entry below is hidden until you open it, and each names the chapter the character first appears in.

Max Hoste (Protagonist)

Also known as Seth Pendell

Appears from the start

An exceptionally powerful Level 1 tower climber who has stopped hiding behind the name Seth Pendell. Max leads Tanila, Fowl, Batrire, and Cordelia through floor 49 while worrying that the tower's escalating danger may outpace his ability to protect them.

Bob (Supporting)

Also known as Consume

Appears from the start

Max's sapient bound black skill and inner adviser. Bob is temporarily unavailable while undergoing an evolution, leaving Max without the guidance of the entity whose powers and appetite are closely tied to his own survival.

Tanila (Supporting)

Appears from the start

Max's elven partner and a member of his tower party. She fights beside him through floor 49 and shares the risks of a climb whose difficulty is rising in response to Max's extraordinary strength.

Fowl (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A dwarven tower climber, one of Max's closest companions, and a member of the team that clears floor 49. His place in the party is grounded in chosen family as well as their shared commitment to the climb.

Batrire (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A dwarven healer and tower climber who clears floor 49 with Max's party. Her healing helps make the group's dangerous progress possible, though Max fears that later floors may endanger every companion who stays with him.

Cordelia (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A returning tower climber and core member of Max's five-person party. She participates in the floor-49 victory and continues with the group as it rushes through floor 50 to inspect the challenges beyond it.

Queen Molly (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

One of the realm's twin queens. She acknowledges that the rulers hired a hunter to kill Max under their god's order, before they knew he carried a black skill, and is constrained from explaining protected parts of the skill system.

Queen Macy (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 2

One of the realm's twin queens. Alongside her sister, she confirms the divine order behind the attempt on Max's life and faces his demand for a binding promise that neither ruler will threaten his faction or friends again.

Dexic (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 3

A returning ally who led and protected Max's companions during his absence. Max considers her help a debt and promises to repay it by assisting her through the tower when the opportunity comes.

Temple god

Also known as human god

First appears in chapter 6

The divine power associated with the human temple and the earlier order against Max. When Max activates a travel-blocking skill during prayer, the god's attempted manifestation shakes the temple and the surrounding town.

Stacy (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 13

Max's sister, found caring for an infant in the family's neglected home. Her circumstances show Max how sharply his family declined during his absence and intensify his resolve to watch the approaching Choosing Day.

Callie (Minor)

First appears in chapter 17

Stacy's infant daughter and Max's niece. Stacy identifies her as Caleb's child while Max offers his displaced family protection, financial support, and a safer future away from their hometown.

Red dragon (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 21

An intelligent red dragon living in a magically protected volcanic lair. Max approaches her alone because he needs a dragon capable of caring for the silver egg entrusted to him.

Rakonath (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 23

A newborn silver dragon who hatches under the red dragon guardian's protection. He gives Max his name, offers him a System-recognized bond, and can already communicate simple needs through their new connection.

Tanila's sister (Antagonist)

First appears in chapter 31

Tanila's gold-haired sister and an apparent senior operator of the hidden facility. She arrives with armed elves, uses a coercive power against the party, and forces Max into a battle after he removes her to the desert world.

Elven queen (Antagonist)

Also known as Tanila's sister

First appears in chapter 35

The captive elf whom Max fought and imprisoned. The other elves identify her as a queen when Max returns to the hidden facility.

Sock the leg (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 32

A transformed, purple-skinned demon summoned through Max's ornate gateway during the battle with Tanila's sister. He is powerful enough that Max seeks his assistance and agrees to hear the reason for the summons.

Kathleen (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 45

A temple official and former climber who once reached floor 43. Her extended life is tied to temple service, making long absences fatal, and she helps Max prepare the costly controlled summons needed to contact her god.

Grandir (Minor)

First appears in chapter 55

Fowl's unusually gifted younger brother. Tanila identifies his starting weapon-crafting talent as exceptional, raising the possibility that royal attention toward the family forge involves more than its public success.

Erwinnie (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 59

A red-haired Golden Axe leader based in Nalgren. She receives Max's party, explains the royal restrictions above tower floor 50, and offers to help them pursue lawful access while negotiating support for her faction.

Fudamod (Minor)

First appears in chapter 61

A Nalgren tower attendant who questions the party after its unusually fast low-floor clears. His interest suggests that the climbers' abilities, especially those of Fowl and Batrire, are being assessed rather than merely recorded.

Dagon

Also known as King Dagon Stormfall

First appears in chapter 64

The powerful dwarven king, a long-reigning monarch whose commands carry absolute authority. He receives Max's party at the castle with Fowl's parents and younger brother present, focusing the audience on Fowl and Batrire.

Orstein Hammerfall (Supporting)

Also known as Fowl's father

First appears in chapter 64

Fowl's father, a member of the royal-forge family who is present when the king formally receives Fowl's party. The audience brings him face to face with the son who left the family and climbed beyond floor 50.

Greta Hammerfall (Supporting)

Also known as Fowl's mother

First appears in chapter 64

Fowl's mother, a member of the royal-forge family attending the king's audience. Her presence makes Fowl's return to the capital both a royal matter and a confrontation with the family that rejected his path as a tower climber.

Velda (Supporting)

Also known as Queen Velda

First appears in chapter 79

The dwarven queen, Dagon's co-ruler, and a royal host for Fowl and Batrire's wedding. She praises Fowl's rose-ore gift, recognizes Max and Fowl as blood brothers, and displays expert knowledge of dragon scales.

Everett (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Golden Axe leader and established ally of Max and his climbing group.

Tom (Supporting)

Appears from the start

A Golden Axe trainer and operational leader already associated with Max's group.

Sam (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 4

An elderly dwarven bookseller who accepts off-world books and tower records from Max. He agrees to investigate Max's unusual tower encounters in confidence.
