Hooded undead (Antagonist)

A band of hovering, hooded undead that abducts the train's passengers and holds them at a ruined fort. The group controls a geode that traps Abby in spreading crystal.

Archwizard's guard captain (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 9

The guard captain who accompanies an archwizard into an abruptly abandoned mountain town. He survives the attacker's first assault, and his condition after a second magical blast is unknown.

Angel-hosted woman (Supporting)

Also known as missing archwizard's wife

First appears in chapter 11

The missing archwizard's wife, whose soul bond with an angel grants shared awareness and access to angelic memory magic. She joins the effort to learn what happened to him.

Witch-coven representative (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 15

A representative of a witch coven who brokers Queen Bael's demon summoning. She receives the summoning platform as the coven's agreed payment and takes it away.

Demon overlord (Antagonist)

A summoned demon who performs Queen Bael's heart-bond ritual, then tries and fails to seize her womb and unborn child. Its claim on the child remains unresolved.

Dead Sister leader (Supporting)

The leader of a Dead Sister faction who denies responsibility for an attack on the Dead Forge convoy. She punishes the captured rebels and offers an uneasy escort against the remaining rogue force.

Northern warrior leader (Supporting)

An ancient, bloodstone-infected warrior near the Midnight Canopy. He distrusts the Dead Forge and permits its use at the Animus Seal only if his people may seize it should the attempt fail.

Four seal necromancers (Supporting)

First appears in chapter 20

Four survivors among six volunteers who accept bloodstone infection to rebuild the Animus Seal. They channel void magic through the Dead Forge as living anchors for the new lock.

Wolf-like overseer (Antagonist)

A wolf-like being released from a fissure below the Magi Citadel. It understands speech, knows that daemons and witches are attacking Abby's world, and relies on a smaller companion to open portals.

Portal-making scion (Antagonist)

The overseer's smaller companion, equipped with a censer that emits corrosive green smoke and can create passages between worlds.

Abyss goddess (Antagonist)

A powerful woman released from the crystal dome beneath the citadel. She identifies herself as a goddess of the abyss and overwhelms Kale after emerging from long imprisonment.

Archwizard's adopted dragonkin daughter (Supporting)

An archwizard's adopted dragonkin daughter and a powerful magic user. She helps her father trace a tear between realities in the forest south of Solakir.
